Republicans: Immigration reform is more likely to happen if we take the Senate
Buzzfeed ^

Key House Republicans say congressional action on immigration is much more likely if Republicans take control of the Senate.

The effort, two Republicans say, would likely involve individual measures rather than a broad, comprehensive bill favored by Democrats.

"I actually think it's more likely, if we take the Senate, that we will have immigration reform," said Rep. Raul Labrador. "We will be able to do it on a step-by-step approach like most Republicans have been asking to do and I think the American people want."

Labrador, who was a member of the bipartisan House group working on the issue before exiting, foresees a Republican-controlled Congress passing a series of bills that deal with the border and focus on interior security and guest-worker programs.

"I don't want to mislead; it's a difficult lift as we all know," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told BuzzFeed News. "But we would have a better shot at getting it done if Republicans take control of the Senate for the simple reason that it could be initiated in the House with close coordination with the Senate."

>> I live in Texas, and have met a number of legal and illegal immigrants, and the ones that I have met are very hard working, family oriented, and would make great conservatives.

So what? Many Americans are very hard working, family oriented, and are great conservatives. A foreigner whose first act is to violate our immigration laws and whose second act is to violate labor laws is UNWELCOME.

What about those foreigners who are very hard working, family oriented, and would make great conservatives and WHO FOLLOW THE LAW? Amnesty makes fools of them.

A non-vote is a democrat vote. You are seeing the result of 4 million conservatives who were a little too pure to vote for Romney in the last election.

That's a sizable number...I hope you learned your lesson...If you support one of these Americans In Name Only again in the primaries, you'll lose to the Dems for the 3rd time in a row...How many times do you guys have to lose to figure it out???

We got the ball and we ain't playing in your game...

> “...what are the odds that ‘regular’ conservatives will hold the line?”

Tea Party Conservatives in the House along with Ted Cruz, Jeff Sessions in the Senate have so far done a masterful job at holding the line.

Boehner on the other hand is a loose canon. He has been held in check because of one issue that he could not cave to and that is DO YOU TRUST OBAMA?

Now with Cantor gone and a fresh batch of Tea Party Conservatives joining the House ranks, the stonewall should hold until 2016.

And the idea of using the Federal Judiciary Restraining Orders against Obama’s unilateral unlawful EOs should allow conservatives to position themselves for Ted Cruz in 2016.

Yes, it’s awful to think of that disgusting crook named Reid to continue as leader of the US Senate but it will strengthen conservative solidarity. Having McConnell lead the US Senate will cripple conservative solidarity. It’s a horrible horrible Hobbesian choice.

As the existentialist French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre once asked:

“If you are neck deep in a barrel full of sh*t and someone is preparing to throw a handful of snot at you, would you duck?”

Now I have worked to form a conservative strategy if the GOPe loses its bid to take control of the Senate.

Have you thought of a conservative strategy should the GOPe take control of the Senate?

If so, I would like to hear it.

There are plenty of ways to enforce the border and verify citizenship, for employment and other purposes, without granting the federal government power over whether or not you can earn your daily bread.

And “they already have you in databases” is a poor argument in defense of powers not granted by We the People via our constitutions.

However, we need that wall done right and when we get it, there will be no need for another database for the IRS types of the future to exploit.

Well I have yet to see a wall that will stop them that they can't climb over, big under, chew through or knock over with a tractor. In San Diego they were using a car carrier truck that they would back up to the fence, run out the ramps and drive vehicles over the 12 foot fence.

Fences and wall are good deterrence but they can and are breached.

But you are missing a bigger point. Up to 50% of illegal aliens cross the border legally and then never leave because they have a job they got through fraud.

We currently have NO interior enforcement which is all the more incentive to just get past the enforcement zone on the border or overstay your visa and you are home free.

There is no need for a new database, it already exists and has been up and running for years. E-Verify simply requires employers to use it.

It’s to the point that I seriously wonder why these frauds don’t come out and just admit they prefer liberal republicans to conservatives openly. I mean it’s obvious. they could save us all a lot of typing and just debate from the position their actions show they truly support.

But to clarify, he’s either stupid or a liar because 4 mil did not stay home. Romney got more votes than McCain. His math does not add up to support his absurd claim/talking point.

The SD fence is a massive success. If we extrapolate it, it means a 90+% reduction in illegals. That leaves plenty of BP to clean up the few that make it.

I do see the bigger picture I assure you. I have studied this for years. I don’t have every answer but the ones I do have are solidly backed.

the fence only does not exist because we keep electing Republicans that oppose it. Once erected, it’s there. All the laws we invent can and will be reversed by the next lib in power. Far less permanent.

Indeed I have.

First and foremost, any and all conservatives in DC have to throw up an unbreachable wall of gridlock. They have to undermine the GOPe at every turn and not allow them one iota of breath without a youtube video trashing their liberalism for drawing it.

they need to fight the GOPe leadership and do everything they can to strip them of power. Bhoner/McColnel have to be neutered. they cannot be allowed to take any action at all that covers for Barry or benefits liberalism. Tie them into legal and procedural knots, then make speeches via Youtube and public events condemning them for supporting liberalism and mostly...

Expose every damn one of them for their open complicity in Barry’s illegal invasion. Get the families of the people hurt the most and take them into the house and senate DAILY and use every floor speech to point them out and discuss what the GOPe and Obama did to them. The dead kids, the destroyed land, the stolen cars...all of it. Put the names of the bastards on TV avery day..the GOPe/Dem bastards.

Harp on it. Never let up. Allow no laws to pass. allow no EO to occur without a full court press in court.

In short, do everything that was not done before. Rail their liberal choices. Rail their appointments. Rail their attacks on conservatives. All of it.

That stops Barry, mitch and Jonbon cold.

As I said the federal government has no power to keep you from employment, its already your right and to do so would open them up to legal action they could not win.

And “they already have you in databases” is a poor argument in defense of powers not granted by We the People via our constitutions.

We the people granted to the government the power (no responsibility) to defend the nation and regulate immigration. E-Verify is essential to that end which is why it is not currently mandatory. I predict it will be stripped from any bill at the last moment.

Then we can have this same debate again in 10 years as the numbers of illegals continue to grow unabated. If we survive that long.

The Senate has less leverage then the media lets on. The house can be pretty creative, like blue slipping a stripped out bill and assert their rights to exclusive origination rights.

” The SD fence is a massive success”

Yes it is, but the amnesty RINOS/Chamber of Commerce know it works, and want no part of it.

They’re parsing just like the Dems. That’s why you never hear them define the “immigrant problem” as they see it and what exactly needs reforming. If they came out and said that all these illegals are killing our country both literally and economically, they’d win in a landslide.

I agree, which is why I think that a path-to-citizenship should contain the same requirements that legal immigration does, except allow them to go through it while they are here. If they can't or won't meet those requirements, show them the door.

Those fence builders will have to come up with a sweeter deal for the GOPe if they really want to make some money.

They are inherently at a disadvantage. You can only build a fence once. Food stamps are a recurring revenue source. $200 per person per month multiplied over tens of millions is a lot of cabbage - tens of billions a year in sales.
