Republicans: Immigration reform is more likely to happen if we take the Senate

Key House Republicans say congressional action on immigration is much more likely if Republicans take control of the Senate.

The effort, two Republicans say, would likely involve individual measures rather than a broad, comprehensive bill favored by Democrats.

"I actually think it's more likely, if we take the Senate, that we will have immigration reform," said Rep. Raul Labrador. "We will be able to do it on a step-by-step approach like most Republicans have been asking to do and I think the American people want."

Labrador, who was a member of the bipartisan House group working on the issue before exiting, foresees a Republican-controlled Congress passing a series of bills that deal with the border and focus on interior security and guest-worker programs.

"I don't want to mislead; it's a difficult lift as we all know," Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart told BuzzFeed News. "But we would have a better shot at getting it done if Republicans take control of the Senate for the simple reason that it could be initiated in the House with close coordination with the Senate."

You miss the point: 1) gov’t DOES keep you from employment 2) If gov’t DID its one few mandated jobs (border/alien control), biz need to worry whom wishes to become employed

Why do *I*, or anyone for that matter, need to show eligibility (as defined by whom, by what/whose authority)?

And, without being a contractor, I haven’t heard of anyone being added to the payroll without a W-4 filled out (see #1 above).

1)How does the government keep you from employment if you comply with the law, sorry but your argument makes about as much sense as libs claiming that having to show ID to vote is racist. 2)The most fundamental constitutional obligation of the government is to protect the border, E-Verify is an essential element of border protection.

Why do *I*, or anyone for that matter, need to show eligibility (as defined by whom, by what/whose authority)?

Eligibility is defined by statute, approved by congress and singed into law by the president. The constitution gives congress broad authority to regulate immigration.

They just don't really want to because both the dems and reps are getting what they want under the current system of non-enforcement. E-Verity will put an end to the scam which is why it will never be fully implemented IMHO.

The Constitution DOES allow Congress to regulate immigration; it also does NOT allow the same re: eligibility of employment.

E-Verify will do/does NOTHING, as it will not be used, nor enforced in those areas where illegals are hired: agriculture, day labor, etc.

In all other instances, it is yet another blow against a once Free people as gov’t usurps yet more power never delegated.
