I'm not understanding the reasoning behind this engine being vertical but canted to one side as opposed to just laying it flat for a horizontally opposed design a la Subaru, Porsche and others. The center of gravity is considerably lower for handling and safety advantages, the space is there side to side between the front suspension and it offers packaging flexibility as far as vehicle configuration, styling and aerodynamics.
