I think your theory is correct. It certainly makes more sense than the conspiracy theories being floated on this thread.
Doesn’t make sense that it was some hope to get ahead of the story. Each passing week proved that not speaking out was getting them buried in an avalanche of media attacks.
Anyone hoping to get ahead of the story should have been easily disabused of that notion.
