WHAT A disappointment. Officials have retracted their promising report that voter registration surged by more than 3,000 in Ferguson, Missouri since August 9, when the fatal shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed black 18-year-old, by a white police officer touched off sometimes-violent protests.
The St. Louis County Election Board now says only 128 new people registered. The original figure turned out to be the number of previously registered voters who had re-registered to change their address or other personal information, Rita Days, St. Louis Countys director of elections, said.
THATS STILL good news for democracy, although not as much as I hoped. Racial unrest in Ferguson has underscored how much elections matter. Although 67 percent of its 21,000 residents are black, the mayor and five out of six council members are white, and only three members of its 53-person police force are African-American.
Yet shortly after liberal organizers set up voter registration booths near where Brown died, Matt Wills, the Republican National Committees executive director for Missouri, expressed outrage. Injecting race into this conversation and into this tragedy, he said to the conservative Breitbart News, was disgusting, completely inappropriate, and fanning the political flames.
IT IS better to fan political flames, I would say, than to ignite real ones. Democracy fails when civic engagement is weak. In our system, if you feel misruled it is not only your right but your civic obligation to vote the old rascals out, even at the risk of voting new ones in....

Racial unrest in Ferguson has underscored how much elections matter.
It is certainly true that elections matter but the citizens of Ferguson get what they get for a good reason. If Page had said, "My brothers and sisters, when the next election comes around, please get up off your lazy duffs and go vote on election day." then I could give him some kudos. But he did not so no sale.
Clarence Page, Race Hustler.
A more avuncular Michael Eric Dyson.
Voting also means being part of a jury pool so they opt out but still beef about justice...
All this hoopla is not going to do anything but make the police unable to do their jobs. You will see standards for hiring drop to next to nothing, (oh you been to prison, well that gives you valuable insight, and besides you did your time, right?).
What a colossal mess...and the biggest is coming right around halloween.
Strong arming trick or treaters for Mike Brown.
I read: Trannies Preserve Racial Inequality
and said to self: Huh?

(I like my version better)
GMTA, I guess!
Well, actually, it's 128/3000 ≈ 0.043, or about 4.3% as good as you hoped.
GMTA, I guess!
