A federal health official said Sunday there was clearly a breach in protocol that led to the infection of a Dallas healthcare worker with Ebola in what is thought to be the first U.S. transmission of the deadly virus.
Were deeply concerned about this new development, Dr. Thomas Frieden, head of the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in an interview on CBS Face the Nation.
I think the fact that we dont know of a breach in protocol is concerning, because clearly there was a breach in protocol. We have the ability to prevent the spread of Ebola by caring safely for patients.
President Obama was briefed Sunday on the diagnosis by Lisa Monaco, his homeland security and counterterrorism advisor. He later spoke with Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, in which he directed that the CDCs investigation of the apparent protocol breach move as expeditiously as possible.
The White House said Obama also ordered federal health authorities to take further steps to ensure that healthcare facilities nationwide are prepared to follow infection control protocols in the event they should confront a possible Ebola case.
Frieden said the worker had been monitoring herself and was promptly isolated when she developed symptoms.

[Breach in Protocol] == [Blame the Victim]
I think Dr. Friedan should prove the protocols work by taking on-site responsibility for the patient care of this new victim.
Incompetent CDC is blaming the incompetence hospital. This Ebola theater is run by morons.
Yep, that was my first thought. The CDC can’t POSSIBLY be wrong.
Actually they’re blaming the victim, the nurse.
That will go over well with other nurses who might be taking care of ebola patients.
Geez, if it’s that easy to breach protocol...we’re all screwed.
Just an observation.....Drives me crazy when they begin their response with the word “SO.”
From what I’ve read, they are saying there must have been a breach in procotol because otherwise this nurse would be OK and NOT have ebola. This is fascinating to watch unfold.
Blame the victim, indeed. This thing is highly contagious and can either go through the flimsy fabric of gown they are wearing, or through masks or both. It is spread by more than direct contact too.
Yah, goes over like a turd in a punchbowl with THIS particular nurse!
The legacy of scumbag Duncan lives on through new victims..meanwhile the CDC blames the victim even though she followed all proper procedure
I will wait before assigning victim status to anyone involved in this fiasco.
Here it comes putting the blame elsewhere versus letting the chips fall near this Obama administration for his ineptness. If this were Bush in the White House, the media would be saying he had blood on his hands, not a time to unite. They must keep their party in tact. Only a short amount of time for the election. That Judge Jenkins is doing everything possible to keep the panic down for political reasons. Now, blame the person who went into Duncan’s room to help him. I though the hospital staff was racists (blows up that theory for the family’s fake lawsuit).
If this had happened under a Republican president, Democrats in Congress would be announcing open hearings to commence in several committees starting Tuesday morning.
Any Republican who complained that this was an unfair politicization of a tragedy in order to hurt his party in the upcoming elections would be told to “embrace the suck.”
But, due to the fact that it’s the Democrats who are running scared this election season, and Republicans who should be ramping up hearings into how this has been handled and why these decisions have been made, you can rest assured that nothing will happen, except for the deaths
Yep...a week ago, American nurses were saying the medical establishment wasn't prepared to handle Ebola. At the same time, the CDC was saying everything was under control.
Gee...who to believe?
Do you think the nurse deliberately infected herself?
Or do you think she became infected by simply being human and making a mistake...?
He is a jerk to say this out loud before there is proof of it.
That is correct and I think he should also fly back from Liberia with Liberians on the way to the United States. And I think he should hang out for about a week or so with Liberians who passed the temperature check. It would help keep us calm if he survived.
