U.S. military faces new kind of threat with Ebola

(Reuters) - At Fort Campbell in Kentucky, spouses of U.S. soldiers headed to Liberia seem to be lingering just a bit longer than usual after pre-deployment briefings, hungry for information about Ebola.

For these families, the virus is raising a different kind of anxiety than the one they have weathered during 13 years of ground war in Afghanistan and Iraq. They want to know how the military can keep soldiers safe from the epidemic, a new addition to the Army's long list of threats.

"Ebola is a different problem set that the division hasn't (faced) before," said Major General Gary Volesky, who will soon head to Liberia along with soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division.

There are already more than 350 U.S. troops on the ground in West Africa, mostly in Liberia, including a handful from the 101st. That number is set to grow exponentially in the coming weeks as the military races to expand Liberia's infrastructure so it can battle Ebola.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

I still can’t believe this is happening. He wants to kill our military it’s so obvious! We can’t even do it right at a hospital in our own country and we’re supposed to get it right in Africa? I’m so worried!

Just sayin'....the US military used to be the one military that was there to fight the good fight. We're not even pretending to do it anymore. But the military was still there, just in case some people with brains and integrity descend on DC.

Let's say this doesn't go well, and the US military is not there to fight the good fight? After a century of sacrifice, who will be there to fight for us?

I don't like this. Our military might do some good, for sure. But the downside risk is just too great.

Finally the admin has found a way to get rid of as many of our military as possible.

We can believe this because we already know this admin hates our military .. and I’m confident most of the military already knows this.

On our prayer threads, we should add a “special protection” statement for our military who will be in Ebola country; I’m adding it to my personal list as well.

Question: Does anybody else believe this is a plan to take out a lot of our military ..?? Or, at least, to bring a deadly disease back to the states where it will infect every facet of American life ..???

Haven’t you heard? The US military is no longer about protecting the US and its citizens. It is a “global force for good”. If that’s not a recipe for destroying our military, I don’t know what is.

Why are we sending our airborne guys, marines and other untrained military personnel re bio hazards like Ebola into the Ebola hell hole of West Africa?

The soldiers at Fort Detrick are well trained re Ebola and other deadly viruses and how to handle them safely.

Are they being sent there to guide our other troops? If not, why?

If not why not?

See the link below that describes the history of Fort Detrick and up to the present. The personnel there probably have more experience re Ebola versus any other group in the world including our worthless CDC.

Suicide mission, or more than likely, obama will rotate those troops back into the US within the incubation period. I really wouldn’t put it past him to do such a diabolical thing. Seriously. Him or his ilk for that matter.

Sending them to the EBOLA nations, because not enough of them were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama always has a plan.  No disaster goes to waste.

The majority of this nation is holding it’s collective breath for the next two years, hoping once Obama is no longer called “President”, things will become a bit more sane and even logical, whether a Dem or Rep wins the office. Everyone with a brain is hoping that this is it, we have reached the bottom of the barrell, and there is nowhere to go after this but up.

101st Airborne??? OK, I can somewhat rationalize sending the SeaBees because there is construction, and perhaps a medical battalion or two because the reported purpose is to train the locals, but the 101st? Shouldn’t they be fighting ISIS instead?

“So can they shoot when they come under attack from desperate machete wielding locals?”

I’ve been wondering the same thing.

Also:

How many soldiers get sick before they shut this operation down?
How many soldiers dead before they shut this operation down?

I am not confident those questions have been answered by the administration.

“So can they shoot when they come under attack from desperate machete wielding locals?”

Probably not. Just like our soldiers at Ft Hood didn’t have their weapons, when one of OboZo/Holder’s Islamo buddies slaughtered and wounded a lot of innocent and unarmed soldiers.
