The lie was one of omission. Duncan opted to keep his exposure to Ebola to himself. He could/should have provided this critical piece of information to the nurse at triage in the first hospital visit. Because he refused to disclose his exposure, he gambled with his life.

His loved ones are not to blame for not knowing.

Coming from a region with Ebola spreading wildly, he had to have suspected. It would have been in his own self interest to have pressed the matter in the first visit. Families seem to fear being shunned more than being wiped out. They are reluctant to admit to the possibility of exposure even though they would be better off self quarantining.

Psychology isn’t my strong suite.

As far as he knew, the woman he was helping had malaria. He was perfectly aware that malaria is not contagious. Malaria is very common in equatorial Africa. I do not see how he could lie when he really did not know.

Yes, Louise Trou but I have read so many articles about them I might have a hard time finding it again. I remember reading when Duncan 1st arrived one of the ex’s came to meet him and get reports from back home since he (the ex) still had family there. I wish I could remember where the other ex lived, I know it was in another state.

Think about it....

It’s because the incubation period is longer than 21 days and...

they are infectious BEFORE they show symptoms.

Think of it as... infectious as measles...
as deadly as Ebola and...
with a very long incubation period.

either the gubbamint is hiding new infections or Ebola is not as contagious as they are saying that it is.

It is contagious under the right circumstances. Duncan could have easily passed it to to others in the apartment but they lucked out. His own cleanliness would play a role. Did he wash his hands after the bathroom? His "stepdaughter" took some precautions including disinfecting the apartment after he was taken to the hospital. She did that days before the moonsuit people came. Troh and others in the apartment would probably show symptoms by now if they got infected. It would be pretty hard to cover up since they had numerous media interviews and a visit from Jesse Jackson.

He didn’t mention malaria either, did he? Strawman arguments aren’t going to bring back.

How would we know?

I have been looking and have not seen any status of the family in days.

Did I miss it?

I do not know the exact question asked, but I suspect it asked about Ebola contacts, not contacts with sick people. The CDC guidance specifically says to ask about Ebola contacts...I linked in a previous post but cannot find it now.

In any case, the fact that he said he came from Liberia, and showed up at the hospital with those symptoms, should have prompted the hospital to admit him immediately.

FWIW I thought I read early on that he bought the tickets on the 1st of September or so.

“I’d like to know the immigration status of his “folks” here.”

Me too.

I do not understand anyone claiming the hospital was at fault in any way for not treating him for ebola initially, since it appears extremely obvious HE knew he had it, but refrained from telling anyone about his actual exposure until way too late.

You're not making sense.

If he knew he he'd been exposed to Ebola, and now found himself safely in the Land of the Free, why did he not object when Dr Feelgood at Texas Health Presbyterian sent him on his way with a worse than useless antibiotic prescription?

It's obvious that either he didn't know or he was in deep denial as to his predicament.

He knew he’d been exposed and he knew he was exhibiting symptoms, so he fled to the US. Once there, he attempted to get himself admitted to hospital. But, he believed the high priests of medicine rather than his own lying eyes and went home with painkillers, relieved that he’d been told what he desperately wanted to hear. Then, he continued to sicken.

21 days is the 99th percentile, not the limit, which is more like 25 days.

and... they are infectious BEFORE they show symptoms.

You need a link for that.

At the time he left Liberia, Duncan was infected but was not showing symptoms.

If he was infectious at that time, we should be seeing some new cases among his seatmates on the flights from Monrovia to Brussels, Brussels to Dulles, and Dulles to Dallas.

He was exhibiting every symptom to the point of apparent projectile vomiting by the time he left that apartment for hospital the second time. No new cases, not yet or not reported at least.

If he was exhibiting symptoms in Monrovia, why did they let him on the plane after taking his temperature? If he was exhibiting symptoms on his trip to the US, why did he not infect fellow passengers?

Once there, he attempted to get himself admitted to hospital. But, he believed the high priests of medicine rather than his own lying eyes and went home with painkillers, relieved that he’d been told what he desperately wanted to hear.

It's quite possible he was in a state of deep denial. He'd passed the check at the Monrovia airport. And, now, here this American doc was dismissing him as a routine case despite his having told the nurse he was from the hot zone.

Whew! Denial, a river in Africa!

That was some days after he'd completed his plane rides. And a couple of days after his dismissal by Dr Feelgood.

... and we’re to believe no one in that apartment, in which he’d soiled every mattress, no one else was infected.

The clock on that is still ticking.

We've already had one false alarm, tracked by TV helicopter all the way from CareNow in Frisco to Texas Presbyterian.
