Funny (not really)...
I have a nephew who JUST rotated out of Afghanistan (for the last time) and is on his way back stateside as we speak...
And he is getting out of the Marines at the end of this year...(Big mistake, but that is another discussion)...
His wife, all 90 lbs. soaking wet, is fresh out of bootcamp and her training to be an Army Combat Medic, is in the Army reserves, and for some reason her unit just got activated and she is deploying in the near future for somewhere between Kuwait, and Afghanistan...She called me about this a couple of days ago...
So, the deployment being something some of us thought couldn’t happen because the war in Iraq was supposed to be over...I guess this is what they call a “watch my right hand, but pay no attention to the left hand, or the guy behind the curtain, situation”...
Not that I am concerned too much for her (niece) but just damn, you cannot ever believe a damn thing you hear or see anymore from anyone connected to D.C., not that anyone on our side of the aisle would give us a heads up on BS like this, but hey, what do I know...
Just an all around run around...No wonder why a lot of kids these days are not re-enlisting or extending...
What they need to do is send a bunch of us relatively “old farts” over there, and let us wreck havoc on the bad guys...We may not move as fast as we used to, but we are older, wiser and mean as hell, and at least “my” trigger finger still works pretty damn well...
I would take their place in a heartbeat...
No deal unless we fight under WWII rules of engagement.
Plus, we're going to need a flame-throwing version of the M1A1 Abrams tank which I'm not sure even exists.
I would go with you. I would work for food, clothing, transportation,a good weapon with all the ammunition I could use and maybe an incidental death benefit package. In addition I would request some air support and artillery support on occasion. We could be the Sixty Something Brigade and let the youngsters have a chance at a full life. However, I am afraid this would never happen for many reasons, not the least of which would be our inability to follow the current, strict rules of engagement.
I keep hearing that special operations personal, and all their related support units are super busy and have been for some time. Not just in Arab countries but Eastern Europe, Africa, and South America. Maybe they are just stretched too thin but there is an awful lot more going on than we ever hear about, no joke.
