Survivalist, suspected cop killer Eric Frein’s college records eyed by authorities

Stroudsburg, Pa. – When survivalist and alleged cop killer Eric Frein's photo appeared in the local paper as an ongoing manhunt unfolded in the rugged terrain of northeastern Pennsylvania, something jogged Lawrence Squeri's memory.

The name and face were dimly familiar to the retired professor, who taught Russian history to thousands of students during his longtime career at East Stroudsburg University. Then it clicked: The man police believe gunned down a State Trooper and wounded another had indeed sat in his class nearly a decade ago, attending for the beginning of a semester before dropping out and failing the course.

Wow a kid took a course and dropped out. And many years ago at that!

I wonder what that means?

Could it be the professor was a crappy prof? Could it be the kid thought the class would be cool and it wasn’t? Could it be the kid needed more time at the shooting range for something he was going to do in the future? OR Was the the precursor to him joining that deep, dark, deeper and darker than the CIA agency all of those guys in the spy books work for?

News writing and journalism is definitely a dead art.

I don’t believe any LEOs “thinking outside the box” would want the perp to know what they’re doing.

By giving the appearance of muddling around, putting all their eggs in one basket, they’re now free to pursue other lines of investigation off the grid.

We’ll see.

FLIR still has difficulty looking down through foliage. Give it a few weeks when the leaves fall and he will have a tougher time of it.

While they’re in the mood, can they get Obama’s, too?

Hah! My first thought!

The FBI should look into his motivation.

My guess is one of the cops was banging the shooters wife or younger sister

To understand motivation is one huge step in finding the shooter

Plenty of students fail a class and change majors and don't shoot people.

Sounds like this guy may be running for school board and needs a media hit.

His father was. I don’t believe he himself ever served in anything but a make-believe Serbian Army reenactor outfit.

When I read that, I had to ask myself, “What did they reenact? The sniper siege of Sarajevo? The Children’s Massacre of Srebrenica? The Rape of Montenegro?”

Sterling examples of martial virtue, those. I see why someone who was into that sort of thing would think it heroic to shoot an unsuspecting guy walking through the parking lot after work.

I guess you’re an ass. Is that your motivation?

Spoken like the non-thinking neanderthal that you are

Now before you puff your chest out and get into a flame war...

Think about the situation. This was no random drive by killing:

1. A guy with no real trouble with the police methodically stocks caches of ammo/food/camping gear.

2. By his own phone records - for months he conducts recon on just a few certain state troopers.

3. He plans his attack to the last detail and also has a detailed escape plan - which failed BTW.

4. The police have yet to release any motive. Why?

Yes - he may just be a nut playing a fantasy game of Serbian sniper hide and go seek. But that makes no real sense. Why target innocent state troopers? A mosque or inman or a neo-nazi would have been more logical given the history of Serbia.

And nuts typically don't plan this way anyway. And keep it all to themselves for months. No - there was something deeply and personally motivating him.

So what is left for this motivation?

You really are pretty clueless on the history of Serbia.

Start with the brutal occupation of Serbia of the muslim turks for 500 years. Then study how 100,000's of them were slaughtered by the Nazis and their allies. Then study how even more of them were slaughtered by the communists.

For your final exam - you can study how they were our allies during WWII and saved 1000s of downed allied airmen from death.

I’m right here at ground zero and SargeK isn’t the neanderthal. You should follow the case more carefully before you throw insults and spout off your theories. Just one example, Frein DOES have a criminal history and “trouble with the police”. Try a search engine.

Yep - sounds like a hard core criminal with a long history:

A criminal records check in Pennsylvania only turned up a traffic citation for Frein when he was cited by Stroud Area Regional Police on April 13, 2012, for driving a vehicle without an inspection. He pleaded guilty and paid a $111 fine, court records say.

And FYI - he was also an Eagle Scout.

You say you are at Ground Zero. Police have not spoken of a real motive. What do people say at ground zero? What do you hear? Why did he particularly shoot these two state troopers? This was NOT a random act.

The article you pulled up is very old, no wonder you are confused.

Years of petty theft from war re-enactment vendors, finally caught in 2004 and charged when he stupidly tried to resell items on ebay, then friend ratted him out. Failed to appear in court, became fugitive from justice in NY and PA, hid out in the same woods he is in now for several days before father convinced him to turn himself in, served approximately 3 months in prison....

You sent me a link to an article I have to fill out a survey to read?????

So answer the question - what do the locals say about the motivation of the shooter.

It’s a one-question box before the article, how lazy can you be? I already googled the article for you because apparently you couldn’t find one more recent than a month ago. The article is pretty clear if you are actually interested in this case, but I’ll pander to you just one more time.

The locals are saying he was a self-absorbed, irresponsible, smug, juvenile, petty criminal that had a long-simmering resentment against police for daring to hold him accountable for his stealing. The thing that locals seem to debate the most is how much his parents had to do with his turning out to be such a toad at 31 years old. Based on his myspace page link to Che Guevara, I personally think he is a commie guerrilla wannabe who longs to be as famous as Che and held in awe for his own skills that he seems to hold in quite high esteem.

What you have said is true, but also irrelevant. I am the first generation off the boat from the former Yugoslavia. It is said that in the Balkans, they forget nothing and they learn nothing. My first hand experience with the culture confirms the truth of this.

One cannot continue a blood feud, committing genocide to avenge one committed generations past.
