Internal Revenue Service emails from employees under investigation by Congress have been deleted. The Obama administration's best guess is that there was just an unfortunate coincidence of timing with an obligatory reference to "partisan witch hunts."

To blame all of it on Democrats is a bit shallow. The IRS has been terrorizing peasants for decades. This is the government’s bill collection agency, therefore Republicans have no real interest in getting rid of these thugs in any kind of serious way. This is a political opportunity for the DC Republicans right now, nothing more. Lois Lerner is in contempt - where’s that going, exactly? Nowhere.
