LOL!! The Dr. told ‘em to get Nana (at age 2) to a dryer climate or lose her. So they packed up the station wagon and moved to Phoenix. No job, no place to live, only a desire to save their baby.

It all worked out, of course, due in no small part to the large Italian-American community in Phoenix. As well, her uncle had already been there for awhile. He was a guard at a POW camp in the desert south of Phoenix along the Gila River during WWII.
