This isn’t about personal fear. If I get stuck by a needle and get HIV, well that sucks, but it’s what I signed up for.
I didn’t sign up to catch a virus that once caught, puts my children at extreme risk of at least being without a parent, but also probably in jeopardy of life and limb as well.
Call me a coward all you want. I’ve been called much worse. I’m an RN and I’ll be damned if I’m going to put my 6 and 1 yr old children living under my roof in that kind of jeopardy.
No job is worth that.
If this becomes more than an isolated event and if the current trend continues of health care providers being at risk, then you can expect healthcare providers to walk off the job by the tens and hundreds of thousands.
Even when I was on active duty, it was my own life I place in harm’s way. My FRiend, you’ve seriously miscalculated bravery by extended it to include acts that place my immediate family at risk.
The analogy that you go if you’re so brave wasn’t apt. Send your children.
So you signed up willing to deal with sticking yourself with a needle, but not willing to treat sick people.
If the medical people all quit medicine because they refuse to treat people who might have Ebola, then they will be responsible for it engulfing everyone, and that goes for all the other sicknesses and diseases that need people who know how to operate hospitals and medicine.
I hope it is just you, and that you don’t infect others with your panic, perhaps you should just stay silent and get out of nursing.
You are correct, protecting your children comes first.
BUT the utterly incompetent King OBOLA, the CDC and liberal PC DEMONcrats will have none of it. They are INTENTIONALLY ALLOWING EBOLA TO INFECT U.S. CITIZENS AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THEIR POLICIES. This horrible disease has a 50 to 90 plus percent death rate! Those who get infected die horriffic deaths and his is what OBOLA and his DEMONcrat enablers are INTENTIONALLY foisting on all of America EXCEPT FOR THEMSELVES AND THEIR PROTECTED CLASS OF FOB's ("Friends of OBOLA").
Your first responsibility is not to some Ebola infected illegal alien who intentionally LIED to get into the country and who didn't give a darn about who he infected just so long as he got treated. Neither is it to anyone else infected with this rabid disease. Your first responsibility is to yourself, and your family. By in large those who get Ebola are already dead. They just spent $500,000 DOLLARS on trying to keep one Ebola infected illegal alien alive and he died. Think of the many hospital staff who could have been infected in the hospital by this one individual! For those who say "that can't or won't happen here" the answer is tell that to the multitudes of professional doctors and health care workers who have already been infected and DIED in the course of treating those infected with Ebola in spite of all of the "precautions" and "safety procedures".
Don't concern yourself with what others may say or think about you. You are making the right decision. If I were dying of Ebola the last thing I would want to do is endanger the lives of anyone else. Ebola is a death sentence for the overwhelming majority of those who are infected and for EVERYONE they intentionally or unintentionally infect! If you want to see where this is all heading I would strongly advise you to watch the movie CONTAGION it is one of the finest, accurate, non-sensationalized representations of what we face ever put on film.
