Police officer fatally shoots teenager in south St. Louis

Update, from 1 a.m. media briefing:

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said the officer was patrolling the neighborhood for a private firm at the time of the shooting. He confirmed that the victim was 18 years old.

Dotson said the officer was in a car when he saw three males and one of them started to run away but stopped. The officer did a U-turn and then all three ran. He drove through streets following them and then chased them on foot. He then got into a physical confrontation with one that escalated into gunfire.

The teenager had a gun and fired at least three shots at the officer, who returned fire, the chief said. The teenager attempted to fire more but his gun jammed, Dotson said.

The officer fired 17 times, he said. It is unclear how many times the teenager was shot.

Police recovered a 9mm Ruger, he said.

Dotson did not identify the 18-year-old but said he "was no stranger to law enforcement."

Relatives who came to the scene, however, said the victim had been unarmed. They identified the victim as Vonderrit Myers Jr., 18

The FBI and other sources of homicide by law enforcement figures below include the majority of all police departments.

The point of this reply is to point out that whites are the most likely to die while being arrested.

The Obama-Holder U.S. Dept. Just Us and the race-grievance industry will of course exploit all shootings to the max vis-a-vis race more than any concern for the poor victim.

The ARD data show that whites are more likely to die while being arrested and IMO there is no doubt that some of those deaths were the intention of the police.

But the main point is I bet that policemen don't care about race compared to protecting themselves from being killed or maimed.

And what about Ms Carey the unarmed, young black woman chased, surrounded and gunned down by federal agents in D.C.? Where's the Obama-Holder U.S. Dept. Just Us and the race-grievance industry caring about her and her baby?

To me this shows that it is not a racial thing. It happens to all races. These figures however do not show those thought "murdered" by police. I have not yet located data for recent years. Why can't I find data for recent years? I do not know.. maybe the Dept of Just Us and Race-Grievance Industry don't want it known that whites are the most likely to die being arrested.

Here in LA they shot a kid 100 times on the freeway in a chase where the kid was literally begging for it [by calling 911 and taunting the police].

The parents sued for $1 million for each bullet. 100 million dollars.

About a year and a half later, I noticed just recently the case was dismissed.

This is another neighborhood under seige that has to pay for police officers to work secondary because there are not enough regular patrol officers on the street to get a handle on what is going on.

I am sure the NBPP and CPUSA and every other special interest group is going to demand that police officers not work secondary.
