Ignorance is going to be our worst enemy in this fight. It has been already. People are used to regular diseases, not diseases like this one. Most people are still not aware of the problem.
I'll wait for independent confirmation of the doc-in-a-box being shut back down for decontamination, but that does honestly sound like prayers for the deputy and his family are in order. He has to be out of his mind with grief and anger, if he unwittingly exposed his family due to bureaucratic bungling and bad info.

Well, for one the nursing student in Africa who managed to keep from contracting ebola from all three ill family members by thoroughly washing her hands in a chlorine solution.
I’m not sure why it is so offensive to some to admit that there are things we ( as Americans) don’t do well. I happen to think there are many wonderful things we do do well. I did not say I think Americans stink, I said they stink at hand washing and since you brought up Obama one of his more frustrating habits is not taking any accountability for his mistakes. If we know that hand washing correctly helps prevent the spread of infectious disease why not do it? Soap and water are cheap compared to fancy hazmat kits.
I can’t remember who said it, I believe it was a retired General. But what he said was extremely concerning. He said that Ebola is going around the planet at this point, there is no stopping it (we could but were to PC of course).
Anyway, he said once it hits Central America it will be much like Africa, totally out of control, and they are going to be flooding over the southern border sick with Ebola, possibly by the tens of thousands and if we don’t act now it could devastate this country. I think he makes a good point ...

As long as that caution does not include suspending or severely restricting travel from the African continent.
And or stopping anyone from the African continent who's flight had originated from these regions. They must be allowed into the U.S. for our own safety.
If it comes down to hordes of sick people fleeing Central and South America that would infect them in the process, I'm not entirely certain that they wouldn't militarize.
They hold the indios in fairly low regard, Mexico does. Mexican leadership can be quite racist, even to the mestizos but especially to the indios.

It’s a matter of understanding risk management. If you take time to analyze the risk, learn what the dangers are and develop a workable strategy how to mitigate them, there is no need to panic. You take whatever steps necessary to decrease the risk, and you have confidence that the mitigation measures work.
I think back on military basic training, where we had to enter a gas chamber while wearing a gas mask. While you stand there with the mask, breathing clean air, the room fills with tear gas. Then you are ordered to remove the mask and breathe the tear gas. You will never again doubt that gas masks really work. That training is extremely effective at teaching one to have confidence in the mitigation measures.
