AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka has spent the last month crisscrossing the nation to mobilize voters on behalf of union-endorsed candidates, largely Democrats.
His takeaway 28 days before the November midterm elections: I feel a sense of urgency that we still have a lot of work to do, he said. Voter turnout is going to be the deciding factor in this election, Mr. Trumka told reporters at a meeting at the labor federations Washington headquarters Tuesday.
The challenge labor faces is apathy from prospective voters who are wondering why they should care about this election, Mr. Trumka said. Hes been asked that question many times during his visits to states including Wisconsin, Missouri, Kentucky and Maine. The answer he gives is that the economy isnt like the weather because the economy is something people can actually change by voting for the candidates unions say support policies that will strengthen the middle class, such as raising minimum wages.
You can see the light bulb going off in their head when they hear that answer, Mr. Trumka said.
The federation and its member unions are going to have to turn on a lot more light bulbs to get the results they want. Mr. Trumka concedes that many key races up and down the ballot in labors 11 priority states are very tight.

How many union members does it take to change a light bulb?
Wondered why the sporting goods section was sold out of baseball bats.
I see he is back on board with his master Oblablah. Like a dog to vomit, they always go back.
And lots of phony ballots to fill out too, huh Little Dick?
He campaigns for “mainly democrats”? Do you know of anyone he’s campaigned for that is NOT a democrat?
Dead, duplicate, fake, made up, stolen ballots voters will be the deciding factor...
I think I will call up a union to ask for a ride to the polls so I can vote against their slate of candidates from Hell.
lotta ballot stuffing to do, ya know. lotta threatening and menacing to do before then...
Trumka is a commie left-over.
You really want to know? Ten.
A dispatcher from the Dispatcher’s Union to call the proper unions in the right sequence.
A Teamster to transport the ladder.
Someone from the Painters’ Union to install and remove the ladder.
A Painters’ Union steward to supervise the installation and breakdown of the ladder.
A UWUA gage technician to measure the outlet.
An IBEW master electrician to check lines and specify the new bulb needed based on gage and wattage.
A Teamster to package and transport the new bulb.
A junior electrician to remove the old bulb, and install the new one.
An IBEW steward to supervise installation and ensure that proper work rules are followed.
An ILWU worker to transport and properly dispose of the expired bulb.
ESAD, Dick.
Don’t forget the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA),they will be there to save the day if a union member should drop a light bulb, that’s 11.
Oh, of course. And since the new bulb is a CFL by law, we need a team of three IUOE hazmat specialists on standby.
That brings us to 14.
Might also bring the EPA in,they are AFGE union members, that is 15.
This guy is scum, really surprised he hasn’t ben Hoffa’d off by now
Personally, I would be a lot more interested in knowing the names and affiliation of the non Democrats that the RICO union goon squad is supporting/endorsing...
With the pacer of Voter ID increasing by the month this could be Richard “Fifth Amendment violator” Trumpka’s last chance to cheat on a large scale.
