OTOH—a couple of months ago, from a station in San Francisco: A very long time lady evening anchor:
She was talking about the storms about to hit Hawaii.....and she called the large city on the east end of the big island.......High Low-—Not HEEE Low.
If I had had their phone number, I would have called her on it.
Just this AM—a few minutes ago, a city north of Madison, Wisconsin, was referred to by the ABC weather guy:
He called that place VIR’- oh-qua
It is Vur-O’-qua.
I know there are a great many Indian names all across the country.
Maybe these people should get their words straight. I might believe them about their comments a little more.
The more ‘professional’ newspeople have become, the less they know about anything except being PC.
Geography, history, grammar; it’s all foreign to them. Even small town media have anchors and reporters earn their chops by doing character assassinations of conservatives.
I’m pretty sure Washington state talking heads now get an intensive boot camp on how to pronounce places like Sequim and Puyallup. After some hilarious moments in the past, things have settled down quite a bit.
