As has been pointed out,more fires are caused by cooking, candles and space heaters.

You are correct, with cooking being the primary source. Usually dementia is involved and the tenant ends up in a nursing home.

My mother-in-law is staying in one of the suburban allegheny county senior's building and she regularly tells us about the fire department visits. I have watched the tenant turnover for years.

The smoking issue is more nanny state nonsense. The only positive point I see is about the painting and even the cooking smoke cancels out that benefit.
