Scouter's Ebola Projection Update - 10/4/2014 - (Vanity)

To: Vendome; scouter My wife just flew into Newark from Brussels. Been waiting on the plane for 1 1/2 hours now to deplane. Medical emergency onboard with a passenger vomiting.

They have to wait for the CDC to come interview the person before they can leave.

Consider travel plans carefully.

I was typing when your most recent post went up, so I missed the change in status.

Please post her experience when she has a chance and it is great that the situation was resolved quickly.

All such scenarios are based on probability. The problem with them is that there is also a probability that some method of contact with fluids happened that is more remote.

A couple of aspirin can remedy a fever. Is the CDC REALLY this stupid??

[We are stuck on the plane, Immigration staff now on!]

So were these immigration officials the ones who escorted the sick man off the plane, and if so, are they still wearing the same gloves?

They definitely have been showing their incompetence. It has been stunning (not in a good way) to watch.

This is a very scary situation, and I am glad that they released your wife! I am lifting her (and of course you as well) in prayer as soon as I hit “post”.

(Rich Burchett) Row 27 is the man sitting right next to sick person just interviewed on CNN. The man next to me nudged me and was speaking incoherently... he asked for help. He had his head between hands bent over - face covered with a towel - said his eyes were floating and hurt really bad. FA: Came and said what can I do, do you need medical assistance? Pt said yes to medical personnel. Another FA came back he described symptoms, they asked where are you from? He said LIberia. When they landed - row 25 through 28 was told they had to stay on plane (on that side)

The authorities came on with masks escorted him and his daughter off. 15/20 minutes later said everyone could deplane and he’s not contagious!! Q - did they ask you to monitor yourself? A - Mot at that time. I was in baggage, then they came across loudspeakers, all officers do not let people from UA to leave. We waited for hours and hours. We finally got an announcement from CDC, we were told we were held out of an abundance of caution, we filled out our addresses, and given sheet for signs and symptoms for ebola.

Did you see him vomit? I did not see it. They put a mask on them and put him towards back of plane. I was very nervous. They allowed me to move across the aisle, before they moved him. Are you concerned? I feel fine, my concern is if this were something contagious we didn’t have a good reaction time, we seem uncoordinated at the airport. Conflicting information, didn’t know how to handle it.

What were others doing? The other passengers were patient until the end. Nothing had been mentioned as to why - then they were getting upset. First Officer said waiting for CDC then a quiet hush fell over plane. Was not told anything about traveling elsewhere.

I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say, but...

If I were in charge, with someone showing signs of a possible ebola infection, I would have quarantined everyone until a rt-pcr came back on the possible patients.

Unfortunately, most management positions in the CDC are political, and would not want to make bho look bad, and would not want to do anything that could affect air travel, or lead to possible restrictions on travel from africa. Therefore, the patients would be taken off, and the passengers let go, even if there was a high suspicion of ebola.

A prudent, responsible person, might quarantine likely passengers, but, how many people used the bathrooms the patients used? what seat arm rest did the sick patients touch going up and down the aisles? etc.

I'm afraid that, since the guy in texas made it here and is getting medical care, others in affected countries are going to start doing the same thing, and this country will see multiple incidents of exposure AND INFECTION within the next few weeks.

FNC showed two flightmates who didn’t seem too concerned.

I don’t know of many diseases where your eyes hurt really bad and you vomit.

‘Eyes floating’.. protective fluids building up, which then pop, and you begin bleeding from the eyes? And they only were worried about people one row ahead of and behind him? Sneeze range, I guess, if he didn’t vomit until he got to the back of the craft.
