For everybody who took the first two paragraphs seriously, here is the fifth paragraph:

[At this point in this article -- a Friday lark riffing on a thing that is amusing to political die-hards -- we'd like to point out that we are not being sincere. (Hopefully you had already realized that.) It was all a mistake on the Depart of Motor Vehicle's part, as the original SLT article makes clear; Romney is and will remain a Republican. Why point out that this is a joke in the middle of the article? Because that is funnier. People will read the first few sentences or paragraphs and get all mad. Then they'll skip to the bottom, where the last line will be, We now know more about Romney's smart 2016 plans than we might otherwise have expected, and assume that their assumption that we are idiots was right and that this is just garbage nonsense. Which we object to; it is high-quality nonsense. Anyway, play along with the angry people in the comments, alright?]

I hope I educated you on the fact that some Americans pay attention to religion when voting.

I would vote for a candidate of any of those faiths if they had conservative values.

In a two man race for president, it sounds like you prefer the irreligious views of Obama to the religion of Romney. Your choice if that is your preference.

Yes you have educated me. I think about a candidate’s background including religion. But I don’t feel that any specific faith is a deal breaker.

Yeah. I've known about that.

But it's irrelevant to the trick that the Post writer tried to pull in this article...

Oh God, no, not a third party candidate. It would guarantee a Dem victory.

Yeah, I think that’s the GOP elite plan. Kill the conservative with an Independant - that’s why Ollie North lost his Senate bid in VA.

“You of course are free to vote on whatever criteria you choose.”

Agreed.

“But in 2012, we ended up with an irreligious man winning the election.”

I think he is religious. I don’t think he is a Christian.

“Is that preferable to a Mormon candidate? Perhaps you believe it is.”

1. No, they are equally wrong spiritually.

2. Mormonism claims to be “Christian” while denying the God of the Bible and making him into an idol. It perverts the truth of the Gospel and consequently hides the Source of eternal life. I don’t want to do anything to elevate or validate this perversion.

3. Mitt RINOmney wanted to be president and made noises to be elected, but is no conservative.

“It just seems odd that in applying such religious tests, a voter can end up with a secular humanist such as Obama, who clearly has disdain for religious faith in general.”

1. It is the system our country’s Founders chose. Some people vote strictly for their financial interests, some vote strictly on pro-life issues, some vote strictly by party, some have a balanced view. I have a balanced view that is bigger than an election.

2. I believe the POStus (sorry I misspelled that) is religiously a muslim.

Well, I certainly wonder, if the religious faith test is that important to some, how did they decide between Romney and Obama?? Both are big failures when you apply any sort of religious test to them.

People are free to vote based on whatever criteria they choose. If they are unwilling to vote for a Mormon, well, in 2012, we ended up with an irreligious president winning election instead. Was that really preferable?

Both also were, and still are, big failures on political policy positions as well, where conservatism is concerned as well.

1. Both supported/support Abortion
2. Both supported/support the Gay Agenda
3. Both supported/support socialized medicine
4. Both supported Global Warming
5. Both supported Gay Marriage
6. Both supported implementing a Carbon Trading Scheme.
7. Both support Amnesty for Illegals.

So what was your point again?
