A Bushwick coffee shop owner whose Instagram post called Jews greedy infiltrators told DNAinfo New York Thursday that his post was misunderstood and that people reacted so severely to it because they identify so much with their race.
Bushwick native Michael Avila, 31, opened The Coffee Shop at 203 Wilson Ave. this summer in the hopes that it would become a place for the community. Hes had several customers come in describing poor living conditions and the sneaky methods that their landlordswho he said are often Jewishuse to try to kick them out, Avila explained. He said that after two Jewish men looking to buy a building next door acted rudely in his shop, the larger issues about Bushwick gentrification became personal.
In response, he wrote a lengthy screed on the shops Instagram page Wednesday decrying the Jewish people trying to buy up property in the neighborhood. In the post, he described his next-door neighbor as a hoarder who makes the hood look less attractive, but noted that he still doesnt want to see the building bought by people he perceives as greedy.

Good point. I suppose there was a time, when Israel was theoretical, when you could be “anti-Zionist” just as a political position. Nowadays, it’s just a cover.
A good test is if we change the subject to some other nation. What if I said “I don’t hate Mexicans, I just don’t think they have a right to their own nation in Mexico. It’s just a political position, not a racist one.” Would anyone buy that for a second?
And just imagine a non-Mexican/Aztlan bunch of people calling themselves “Aztecs” saying that the Mexicans “have no right to be there” and calling the state of Mexico an “occupying power”.
I think they want the tenants out so they can make a few improvements and collect higher rent from new tenants.
That is a reason. Another reason landlords will kick someone out is because they are a problem/pain in the butt and it just isn't worth the money. This will happen especially if they can rent it out again quickly.
Not saying that's the reason here....but it does happen.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Hours later, he posted two videos of Jews hes in love with, including Roseanne Barr and a YouTube video that features Jews against Zionism, to prove that he was not bigoted.
How funny, almost as fun.
Wonder if the bigot knows the name of the first greedy Jew to invade Brooklyn, Asser Levy. About 450 years ago.
That occurred to me as well. I assume the purchasers are improving the properties, Silva complains about higher rents, also a bad thing for the neighborhood. Run down properties should remain run down. Then that can be blamed on Jewish landlords.
So a guy who sells coffee isn’t greedy? If not, give out free coffee... Unless he is a hypocrite.
I’m sorry, but people aren’t taught basic economics anymore. Profit, which any business MUST HAVE to survive, is called greed. That’s straight-up Marxism, which has replaced Economics in most schools today.
In a world where the market dictates the price based on supply and demand, no one is forcing a single person to buy an over-priced product. The price is fundamentally what people are willing to pay. AND that applies to coffee as well as rent.
