I don’t know whether or not it is still true, but Chicago Center used to have equipment that used vacuum tubes and the FAA had to pay the manufacturer of those tubes to remain in the business to keep the FAA equipment running.

Looks like all the IFR cleared flights had to do Lost Comm procedures. PITA, but not that big of a deal.
It was an amazing parade of technology, and all kept in working order. One backup generator was designed to run for five years without stopping.
The fellow there also told me (this was decades ago) that if the facility went down, it would place hundreds of commercial and civil aviation aircraft in peril over a multistate area. I would assume the facility has significantly more safeguards security-wise than it did in the days long before 9/11.
I would hope there are redundant overlapping systems now.
