Rove to GOP Candidates: Be Bold and Clear About Principles

Momentum is with Republican candidates ahead of next month's midterm elections. "To close the sale" GOP candidates need to emphasize growing the economy, securing the country, and reforming healthcare, writes veteran strategist Karl Rove in The Wall Street Journal.

At the national level, Reince Priebus, chairman of the Republican National Committee, will unveil on Thursday the party's 11 "Principles for American Renewal." It is up to local candidates to apply this thematic framework in their campaigns in a way that speaks to independent voters and energizes Republicans, writes Rove.

The national committee has laid the groundwork for victory, he says. It has analyzed how best to articulate the Republican message about the economy, budget, debt, and national security in a way that speaks to voters. For instance, in talking about the Affordable Care Act, voters are receptive to the argument that "healthcare decisions should be made by patients and their doctors, not Washington," according to Rove, who helped form the American Crossroads political action committee.

It is a challenge for a party that does not control the White House to present a coherent national agenda using principles and language that mobilize voters, Rove argues. Still, the Republican Party has crafted its national agenda in a way that can work for candidates at the state level. It has provided them with campaign training and materials to help them offer not just criticism of President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Democratic policies but to "also show that they want to do something for America," writes Rove.

The moderates that Rove supported, funded and got nominated are not bold or clear about anything...except their own moderation, and then only moderately.

Here in Mississippi, the bold principles this election season are food stamps and government cheese.

RINO Rove and RINO Romney touch.

On this he is right. Republicans could really open up a can of whoop ass on dim-0s IF they had a clear plan to present to people. Remember the contract with America? Something like that.

As it is, they’re letting dim-0s get away with such spit as this........

kay hagan is running an ad trying to scare old folk with lies that Tillis wants to cut medicare, even though she voted to cut over 7 billion from medicare, when she voted for obamacare.

If Republicans wanted to do more than simply manage the status quo better, this could have been a wave election.

What a pity.

Obama’s best friend is a confused and rudderless GOP.

At least with the Democrats you know exactly what to expect.

The GOP will talk a good game during an election but afterwards, they’ll fully fund the Democrats’ wish list.

People are turned off to voting this year. Nothing is going to change even if the GOP takes over the Senate.

Anything RINOs say about principles is a lie.

Even now the Republican leadership is lowering expectations about what they'll do if they take the Senate in 2014.

And then there’s John McCain saying what will happen if the Republicans win the Senate: “I will work very hard to go back to 60 votes,” said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who boldly predicts a Republican Senate would process Obama’s nominees “more rapidly than [Democrats] do today.”

And as for the House: John Boehner: ‘Very Few’ Republicans Will Oppose Me

So tell me again how much better off we'll be voting for the RINOs.

“’To close the sale’ GOP candidates need to emphasize ... securing the country ..., writes veteran strategist Karl Rove in The Wall Street Journal.”

Well, considering that Rove is an open borders advocate, I assume that his reference to “securing the country” has nothing to do with an immigration moratorium, closing the border, deporting illegals, or stopping the entry of persons from countries with ebola and other serious communicable diseases.

Oh, Carl we can’t wait!
Let’s see, I’ll hazard a guess: Universal Health Care for the People of the World Day; Kiss a Muslim Day (International of course) - free jihadi sword if after kiss you cry “Death to America & Israel”, Open Borders for All Day (U.S. only) bring in your favorite ethnic group (minimum of 100) and get a special Ebola identification test kit (sorry, due to intense interest first come first served - some kits may be passed expiration date as they are being shipped from Liberia); National Open Treasury Day - come get all that you want - (Conservatives, Tea Partiers not welcome) - free autographed picture of the “Won”, Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi” if you can prove that you voted 5 or more times in the last election and in at least two different states; Global Warming Day Special - a free abortions if you are using wind, solar, or cow flatulence - otherwise one year free supply of condoms; National Ignorance & Incompetence Day - come support your country - help it to remain number one in this important category (free solar calculator and Common Core exam cheat sheets if you wear “It’s Bush’s Fault” T-shirt or carry home made sign with like message).

Ok, Freepers what else did I miss?

I noticed an anti-Pryor ad running in Arkansas. It accused Pryor (D) of supporting Social Security for ‘illegals’ who are here doing work ‘illegally’.

Okay.

The ad was created by Crossroads GPS. Isn’t that associated with Rove’s Crossroads PAC/group?

It is either irony or hypocrisy that a group associated with amnesty-pushing Rove would be running such an ad.
