The original tweet from a Wisconsin TV station has been removed. I think the Mexicanos are waiting for a huge payoff to be offered. There are many parties to satisfy here, starting with the arresting authorities. Drug cartels are probably also negotiating for concession or release of key people in the USA.

How can drug cartels have a stake in this? They control to some degree the prison where he is being held.

No. Not even remotely likely. It’s Mexican government flexing the little muscle it has and has ever had. It’s just a plane old jurisdictional turf war. Man goes in to Mexico with guns in his car. Gets arrested for breaking Mexican gun laws. Mexico asserts it’s right to charge and hold a trial for him.

I’m sure there is a little bit of comeuppance in there as we arrest and have trials and incarcerate and even execute Mexican Nationals in our country. Despite their protests.

No, we have the ultimate economic weapon. Close the borders down from U.S to Mexico and in 3 day’s the marine will be released with the key to the city and a life time pension courtesy of Mexico.
