Oh hell no, I have a daughter who has no immune system due to a transplant. She would have no chance of survival at all. However I’m sure there’s plenty of them out there.

What second patient are you talking about?

From another article, in the last few paragraphs:
Due to close contact with the diagnosed patient, a second person is under the close monitoring of health officials as a possible second patient, said the director of Dallas County’s health department Wednesday morning in an interview with WFAA.

Zachary Thompson, the director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, says all those who’ve been in close contact with the diagnosed patient are being monitored as a precaution. However, Thompson pointed to one person in particular as a potential second case.

“Let me be real frank to the Dallas County residents, the fact that we have one confirmed case, there may be another case that is a close associate with this particular patient,” he said in a Wednesday interview with WFAA. “... So this is real. There should be a concern, but it’s contained to the specific family members and close friends at this moment.”

Yet the planes keep coming in. Madness.

We can't have African blacks fleeing the hot zone feeling there's prejudice in the United States... that would be sooooooo un-PC. Better to risk the lives of a few million Americans.

Among my acquaintances is a darling 2 Y/O double lung transplant recipient, who is the first person I think of when Ebola ...or any other contagious disease...is mentioned.

Bless yours.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

And a HOMESCHOOL ping.

It'll spread like wildfire through schools.

That ‘visiting from Liberia’ should have sent alarm bells ringing all over the place! Why were the docs, or PA’s most likely, so negligent?...................

If they are products of the public schrool system, they probably thought Liberia is where you check out books.

I read today that he had helped move one of his extremely sick relatives (in Liberia) to a hospital only a few days before his flight. She was very ill, but the hospital didn’t have enough beds and she was sent home, where she died a few hours later. He sat in the front seat of the taxi, while the woman (a neice?) and her parents were in the back seat.

In that case, if it was really only 4 days before his flight, is the incubation period shorter? If he had spent a 24+ hour day traveling (with layovers) and then about 4 days here before he went to the ER, that means it’s only about 10 days, max, a lot shorter than the supposed 21 days. So possibly he was contagious then?

I could have the dates wrong or the family may have been confused when they gave them out, but that’s what it looked like to me.

Reporting now this infected person was on at least 3 aircraft and with up to 900 people on board these 3 different flights...

Watching Fox News.

TWA just announced the guy flew on their plane. Bret gave the number but I was not able to get its number. Said they would put it on their web site.

Still, I don’t think panic is necessary (yet). Ebola is as far as we know only spread by close contact, so I am a little less worried about casual contact, even being in the next seat on a plane with an asymptomatic person or touching a doorknob after them shouldn’t be dangerous. What does concern me is the number of close contacts this man had, and theirs, and theirs. Not to mention the fact that I doubt he was the only person on that flight from Liberia, and I know that his was NOT the only flight into America from an affected African country.

Depends on the social culture/economic situation the two patients acted out and lived within while infected before they were isolated. I have a hard time believing that no one else on that plane from Liberia were not infected and are not currently spreading the disease as I type.

It’s seriously bad for Liberians exposed to Ebola right now. Too many are not getting medical care. If I could hop on a plane having been exposed to the disease, knowing if I stay I will die a terrible death, I would try to get to a good place to care for me. I have values, though, so if I knew I would probably infect others in my escape, I’d stay.

http://heavy.com/health/2014/10/what-is-ebola-virus-pictures-symptoms-transmission-treatment-hemorrhagic-fever/ They've always said symptoms can appear "from 2-21 days." But there have been those who have gone out as far as twice that many days. Then, if you survive, it's still in your sperm for another 7 weeks. That last bit may be telling with Nigeria claiming they are free of Ebola.

Coincidentally, the "unaccompanied" illegal kiddies and their families (if unaccompanied, then where did their families come from?) were supposed to stay in the centers for 23 days. Of course, those centers were closing down in less days but, hey, the precaution looked good on paper and that's what counts.

The game of Ebola Roulette continues...

*click* spin *click* spin *click* spin…BANG!

Eeeee-bolllll-aaaaaa ping!

Bring Out Your Dead

We’re gonna need

a bigger cart!

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
