There are about 100,000 staph infections requiring hospitalization in the US every year since 2005. And drug resistant staph infections are becoming an increasing part of this.
And mortality associated with DR staph keeps going up and up. In most cases, it is not based in contamination, in that the bacteria is in us right now, but on opportunism, the bacteria has a chance and takes it.
Its cause is almost certainly from the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in the US and Canada, not from Mexico or parts south.
Enterovirus D68 has been known in the US since 1962, and it always went after children with asthma and those who are immuno-compromised. It recently swapped genetic material with one of the other 67 Enteroviruses that afflict humans, which explains its more effective spread.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.
