An Ebola victim has flown in from Liberia and has now been placed in an isolation ward at a Dallas hospital.
“This individual left Liberia on the 19th of September, arrived in the U.S. on the 20th of September [and] had no symptoms when departing Liberia or when entering this country,” said Tom Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Officials said the man left the disease-stricken country of Liberia to visit with friends in the United States. They did not say if the man left Liberia for the United States because he had contacted the disease, which takes up to 21 days to produce symptoms.
The victim began showing symptoms by the Sept. 24, and was admitted on Sept. 28 to the hospital.
That three-day period with symptoms is critical because Ebola can only be transmitted when the victim is having obvious flu-like symptoms.
Frieden indicated the individual could have passed the disease to Americans after he began showing symptoms. Officials are now checking if anyone he met during this period begin to show symptoms, so they can be isolated and treated.
A handful of family members and community members were in contact with the victim, said Friedan.
Symptoms show up within 22 days of an infection. If no one reports symptoms by Oct. 20, the patient will not have passed the disease to an American.
So far, at least 3,000 people have died, and thousands more have been infected with Ebola.
Eighteen people were recently infected with Ebola by one person in Nigeria. But that outbreak has been contained, said officials.
The deadly disease spread via fluids, such as blood and sweat. It does not spread as easily as the flu, which can be carried by coughs from a victim to a new host.
The arrival of disease carrier in the United States is likely to spur public pressure for tighter observation of travelers arriving from Liberia and nearby countries.
“Ok, time to freeze travel from country where there is an Ebola outbreak,” said a tweet from Kathleen McKinley, a columnist for the Houston Chronicle and Newsbusters.
“Keep in mind. This is person flew on a plane full of people to here,” she said.
Currently, airline officials in Africa check passengers for flu-like symptoms before they are allowed onboard any aircraft, federal officials said.

They say that like it is a cold hard fact. It is pure conjecture based on anecdotal evidence. Since this "fact" is being promulgated by the Obama government and the MSM I think we should assume that it is false.
of course they are infectious while asymptomatic so fever checking at the airport is useless

One way to turn a red state blue (like Texas) is to intentionally spread a pandemic that wipes out a significant part of the population. I put nothing past the handlers of the @ss clown occupying the White Hut.
It seems there may be only two things that can be done now that it is here in the U.S., quarantine Texas, as I had suggested we do to Africa (that won’t happen) or as you suggest just laugh about it, not a proven inoculation but it is free, and in theory can strengthen the immune system.
If I hear one more time that it can only be spread when the patient is symptomatic....how is that even possible? We don’t catch other viruses that way, which is why family members pass colds and the flu around so quickly. I think it’s another lie we’re being told.
I'm not sure that starting such a pandemic in one of the largest blue blotches on the Texas map would be a good way to go about this.
Why are we letting anyone in from Liberia? And this guy was walking around for a week! Who knows how many others are infected?
The way I figure, it's because of Fat Red Ted and LBJ (Immigration Act of 1965).
It can only be spread through body fluids yet they wear hazmat suits including goggles.
It is because of the way that the virus attaches to the cells in humans.
In the common flu the virus attaches through the lungs. Ebola does not transmit that way. It needs to attach through fluids in the body—such as skin openings, eyes, etc.
Thus, if the patient sneezes on you, the virus particles can land on your skin and be absorbed through a sweat gland. However, the virus does not remain airborne after a sneeze for a significant amount of time.
It all has to do with the “mechanics” of the virus. This is one of the reasons why its been contained in the past. It would affect a village and the village would be shut down, they would self quarantine. Outsiders would not let people out, and no one went it. So, the virus would “burn out” meaning it would kill fast and not spread.
I hope this helps you understand how this thing works. There is no conspiracy. This has been documented in non-governmental works since its discovery in 1976.

It has been tested pretty thoroughly since it was discovered in 1976.
It is important NOT to spread fallacies when dealing with something this scary. And it is scary.
But suggesting that the people who deal with this stuff are guessing and making it up is not helpful and will contribute to any panic.
Who knows how many others are infected?
