SACRAMENTO Calif. (Reuters) - People who fear a close relative may commit gun violence will be able to petition a judge to temporarily remove the person's firearms in California, under a bill signed into law on Tuesday by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown.
The legislation - the first such measure in the United States - was introduced after police in Isla Vista near Santa Barbara said they were unable to confiscate weapons from a man who later went on a rampage and killed six people, despite concern from his family.

Is there any burden of proof or is it just poof and your rights are gone based on one whack-job's say-so?
Like I said, last week I was presented with an opportunity for a promotion and big step up in the company, in CA. I'm still here. No way, not for any reasonable salary. If they were going to pay me an unreasonable salary then I'd question their business and get out anyway.
I’m going to remove several weapons to another state, out of their jurisdiction.
Just asinine. ..
Forgot to add:
“Anyone who pulled that on me could expect 100% separation of any and all contact, to the point I’d cross the street if I saw em coming or leave their proximity and there would never be any chance for reconciliation.
So, when the Girlfriend of a Crips or Bloods Gang Member feels threatened, the PO-LICE will show up at the residence and confiscate the guys (already Illegal) Firearms?
I’ll be waiting for the You Tube Video.

AKRON, Ohio Police boarded a school bus in northeast Ohio and seized two toy cap guns from a 6-year-old boy they say was pointing them at other children.
The bus driver alerted police when he saw the first-grader with what turned out to be toy pistols Tuesday morning in Springfield Township near Akron.
Police tell The Akron Beacon Journal (http://bit.ly/1tgJeIn ) the child pointed the silver, Western-style cap guns at another child and threatened to shoot. The toy did not have any caps in it.
No children were injured, but police said some of them were shaken up.
Officers took the toy guns and turned the boy over to his parents. No charges were expected.
