SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Gov. Jerry Brown on Tuesday signed the nation's first statewide ban on single-use plastic bags at grocery and convenience stores, driven to action by pollution in streets and waterways.

A national coalition of plastic bag manufacturers immediately said it would seek a voter referendum to repeal the law, which is scheduled to take effect in July 2015.

Morons.

They seem to have the upper hand in what was once a conservative state. [sigh]

Hey,
We don’t need plastic bags to pollute the land. But, the free needles are all over the beaches in Santa Clauz.
...And don’t forget; NO SMOKING unless it’s pot.

Next, can they ban Liberal Windbags? That would reduce air pollution on the Left Coast by 100%.

In fact, someone stuff a plastic bag in Pelosi’s mouth. That might be the only way to shut this old rich leftist hag up. If no plastic bag is available, a BARF bag will do.

What kind of man yaps about an “elegant” solution to anything?

Never mind, I know, either a queer one or a liberal one.

I talked to the bagger at my Fry’s grocery in Arizona and he said that the store was considering removing plastic bags, because the (small) city council was considering it. He said he was glad because the plastic bags litter the streets.

I dared him to go outside right now and show me the litter in this upper middle class neighborhood. Because, unless it is because wind toppled a covered trash can, no one tosses their bags out the door.

However, I was in Los Angeles in January and the freeway landscape is just a junk pile coming out of the airport area.

My mother said she believed that trash bags are polluting the ocean.

I told her, that she lives near the ocean, but the trash is hauled inland to dispose. We they contracting barges to take the rubbish out to sea? No one has ever reported that.

The trash I do see are in the campground areas that the Mexicans use ( the ones near Elizabeth Lake and Lake Hughes), and won’t even let the public get near them intimidating us. They toss their diapers and other garbage into the streams and woods.

Yeah, right, ten cents for a paper bag... Until it goes to a dollar, totally unrelated to any economic reality. I hate liberals.

This will be like a toll on a bridge. When politicians realize what a cash cow this is, the price will go up, and up, and up.

Typical knee jerk reaction from Moonbeam. There is a consumer work-a-round for this law while forcing stores to be competitive. "Either you supply carrying bags as a service, or we will shop elsewhere". An effective way to show disfavor would be to load your carts and ring your items through the check stand. Check your bill and note if there is a charge for carrying bags. If there is tell them that you will not pay for a paper bag... they say you must, then simply walk out.

The costs to the store in restocking the items will add up quickly and changes will be forthcoming. I would expect that the major retailers would be the first to take notice. Consider fourteen aisles at your local WalMart with baskets full of merchandise to be restocked.

But yet Nancy Pelosi is still allowed to stay there? Then it’s not a real ban now is it? :>}

I, like most people re-use those bags for garbage, cat litter, etc. So now I’ll have to buy bags just for that purpose. Way to go, Democrats.

* * *

Exactly. I had to shop for cat litter bags this week because of this stupid, completely political ban. A pox on this stupid state.
