CDC: Ebola confirmed in Dallas patient

A patient in a Dallas hospital has been confirmed to have the deadly Ebola virus, the Centers for Disease Control said Tuesday.

That person has been held in "strict isolation" at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas as he was evaluated for possible exposure to the virus. The CDC will decide whether it is necessary to move the patient to another facility.

This is the first-ever case of this strain of Ebola confirmed in the United States. Officials would not confirm or deny if he was a U.S. citizen, only saying he was "visiting family in the U.S."

On the other thread I warned about keeping your hands away from your face. Forgot to mention, door knob to hand to cellphone to face transmission. (Time to get my earpiece working!)

He came arrived in the states on the 20th. Went to the hospital on the 24th. They looked at him, told him it was the flu, and sent him back to his relative’s house. No - this is not satire.

Look at the bottom picture. See all the medical people with no gloves leaning on bedrails, etc.? One undiagnosed ebola patient just wiped out 70% or so of that room.

With the mandatory African greeting customs involving hugging and kissing each and every one of the family and extended family, possibly running into dozens of people:

The single known case of Ebola has in all likelihood already exposed and infected 20 others.

Over the period of time before the first individual began exhibiting symptoms, each one of those 20 have already exposed and infected a minimum of 10 others = 200 possible cases of Ebola already existing in the U.S.

If each one of those 200 also expose and infect 10 others in the coming week, there could easily be 2,000 cases of Ebola infections already present in the United States.

And that's just week #1.

What happens? The capacity of the specialized quarantine units at select hospitals will be quickly overwhelmed, leading to chaos as those infected seek treatment at hospitals that are ill-equipped to handle large numbers of infected patients, spreading the virus in crowded hospital emergency rooms, clinics, and doctor's offices as the number of infections increases exponentially.

May God help us.

BULLSH-ite . Obama’s game, Obama’s rules. Max out the system, implement martial law, occupy the white hut forever. I can’t keep up with it all anymore: ISIS ISIL, khorason, open borders, amnesty, o-care mess, our soldier held in Mexico, Ebola now here, paralysed kids in Colorado. This, all in the last six months or less! I know I left out something.

You forgot the part where on the 26th they told him it is just the flu and sent him back to his relatives. But, what do you expect from ignorant third-world doctors? This could NEVER happen in America with our sophisticated system. Oh wait....

Also Mr. Frieden cleared his throat a number of times a true sigh he was not telling the truth. He would never say it was Delta and it stopped in Atlanta for customs. He will not say the plain was never pulled off line and really cleaned as it should have been. So at least 16 people have sat in that seat and used that lav and none of it has been cleaned the right way. Good luck you stupid American sheep.

You think they don’t have crowds in Africa?

You see pandemic as more likely here than in Africa, well it hasn’t happened in Africa in during the 38 year history of Ebola outbreaks, and I think it is less likely to happen here.

America is a totally different world than Africa, different in ways that makes it easier for us to deal with Ebola.

The only reason there wasn't a pandemic from Ebola up to now was that the previous cases occurred in small, isolated villages that were difficult to get to and where travel back and forth was rare.

Now that it's in a crowded, urban setting it's different. MOST of the population of the US live in crowded, urban settings. Do the math.

It takes more than math for your doomsday scenario to pass muster.

IMHO the presser was full of lies and half truths designed to keep us happy until things get so bad they can not be hidden any longer. Alarmist? Not hardly Pilgrim.

Read Wikipedia’s article on the Spanish Flu - a world wide pandemic from the 1918-1920 era. One of the points made in the article was that the initial impact was down played to keep from alarming the people, after all we were fighting the war to end all wars to make the world safe for democracy.

The moment I heard that the hospital and CDC were not aggressively back tracking the man’s activities for the last 10 days I knew there was no reason to listen any more.

If you are going to contain a pandemic you must first identify patent zero - the first infected person. That has been done. Now you need to identify everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, who has been in contact with him while he was infectious. Each of them must be tested for Ebola. Any one who tests positive needs to isolated and then the same level of background searches made on that one(s). Then keep repeating until you run out positive test results.

Failure to identify, isolate and treat all people exposed to patent Zero creates a new patent zero and all that that entails.

I've done the math on this (I'm not the poster you were talking to, but I know what I'm doing with these models), and it's not pretty here either. If it spreads beyond very small numbers, as in 100 or so undiagnosed infected individuals, it will be very hard to wipe out without crushing our economy in a way that you don't want to imagine. Our doubling time start at 40-60 days, which is much better than Africa, but it could easily get ugly here too.

Letting Ebola into the nation is not going to make the open border party popular. Does not look like they question travelers if they know anyone with Ebola...and if they answer “yes”, that should be enough to keep them out. Why can’t we just ban travelers from Liberia? Why do we always have to be put at risk so liberals feel good and fuzzy about their nasty selves?

What numbers could you possibly be running that takes in all of the difference of America versus Africa, and our dealing with disease?

What do your numbers tell you about this patient for instance and the next 3 or 4 weeks (or months) in regards to him?

Probably went to a hospital with illegals from Mexico and Central America and the hospital didn’t want to be called racist, if they asked him his country of origin.

Wasn’t there a person from Africa who went to England and after getting off the plane, they restrained him, but he sought vengeance by puking all over them.

I wonder if they declared he had Ebola and was using his illness like a weapon. Oh, no, they would have to be turned into for PC training, like those parents who tried to save their child from sex slavery.

And even with a knife-carrying jumper scaling the WH 7.5 fences and a felon getting into the elevator with the pResident carrying an undisclosed gun, the administrations feels that they can contain Ebola, so it probably will affect us (via the troops sent to contain it in Africa), but somehow won’t affect them. Just like all those pro-Obamacare wonks who lost their insurance, lots of people will be surprised how they underestimated this latest version of an anti-American assault.
