Obama reminds me of Zaphrod Beeblebrox, the president of the galaxy in Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As described in the guide, one would at first not consider Zaphrod to be qualified to be the president, or to be a very good one. However, that was only because people didn't understand the role of president of the galaxy. The president was not supposed to wield power and authority, he was supposed to distract the public from noticing the real powers in charge of the galaxy. And considering he has spent over a third of his presidency in prison on various fraud charges, Zaphrod was in fact the most wildly successful president the galaxy ever had.

I would agree on the Beeblebrox comparison....although I might even throw Bush Junior into the same category.
By the end of a primary episode....you are stuck on some guy because he gives an image that you believe in. Be it a fake image or a contrived image....it doesn’t matter. It’s all a PR-managed situation now, and people running around twenty-four hours a day to create a fake-positive or a fake-failure, and sell it to us via the Today Show, CNN, Fox’s dynamic Five, or the Washington Post. Sadly, Time and Newsweak aren’t part of the dynamic anymore because no one buys off on their logic.
Yeah, I kinda believe that HGttG had other implications built into the plot beyond a cynical one dimensional story.

Yes, but with Zaphrod Beeblebrox I'd have a towel and the comfort of the words, "Don't Panic."
The TSA took my towel at the airport because it could be snapped as a weapon when wet, and with Obama in the White House the words Don't Panic give me no comfort.
