I’d really like to know-—what is the fundamental difference between voter fraud and counterfeiting currency?

They are really quite similar, as I see it. If I pass a fake $20 bill, really, it harms nobody until someone notices it, calls the Feds, and the Feds confiscate it.

Likewise, a “rigged” election doesn’t especially harm anyone-—it just makes it so that election is more likely to come out in favor of the “rigger”.

But you get caught counterfeiting currency and you are not going to get any kind of three months probation. The Feds take counterfeiting very, very seriously (eg; only THEY can do it!)

What a dumb comment! A rigged election is an insult to a constitutional republic, which is the form of government the United States and every component state theoretically has. Without free and fair elections for public offices, you have tyranny. So rigged elections harm the fabric of the entire society!

I don't know about you, but I'd much prefer a constitutional republic where civil liberties of citizens are respected by individuals elected to office, than a tyranny in which rulers emerge by means other than the will of the governed. In the latter situation, the average citizen leads a very constricted and unhappy life, and the society is much more prone to violence as means of settling disputes between the rulers and the governed.

It's hard to argue that she rigged an election -- she lived in one part of Bridgeport, CT but lied and said she lived in another part, so she could run for State Rep there. Since she was registered to vote at the fake address, her votes were technically fraudulent but unless a local (less than city-wide) election was decided by a single vote, I can't see this as rigging anything. Her fraud appears to have been about self-promotion, not about influencing the outcome of voting.

I believe that voter fraud is far more serious than counterfeiting currency. It's a fundamental attack on the country and purposely disenfranchises citizens (not like the non-nonsensical arguments against voter ID laws), stealing their voice in the government. It's an attack on the government of the US.

I've long said that voter fraud SHOULD be a capital crime, on par with treason.
