Robichaud: Ted Cruz may be right man to put America on track
The Boston Herald ^ | September 29, 2014 | Holly Robichaud

There is light at the end of the tunnel of Barack Obama’s presidency. With only 843 days left, the presidential campaign will kick off about one month from now.

Getting an early boost for his potential bid is U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). This past weekend he won the Value Voters Summit straw poll with 25 percent of the vote. Ben Carson placed second with 20 percent and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came in a distant third with 12 percent.

While so many GOP establishment types are still encouraging former Gov. Mitt Romney to try a third time after his two failed attempts, Ted Cruz has been wowing crowds and taking bold stands.

Who can resist statements such as “Come 2017, I will repeal every word of Obamacare.” You would never hear Romney or former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush make such a declarative statement.

Earlier this summer Cruz was the keynote speaker at “In Defense of Christians” gala. Instead of pandering like most politicians, he stated that “Christians have no greater ally than Israel ... Those who hate Israel hate America, and those who hate Jews hate Christians.”

The crowd started booing. Cruz stuck to his point and followed up with “If you will not stand with Israel and the Jews, then I will not stand with you” and walked off stage.

Does it remind you of Ronald Reagan stating “I paid for this microphone” or “Take down this wall, Mr. Gorbachev”?

At a time when we have a president who leads from behind and has as many different foreign policy positions as a yoga instructor, Cruz’s unwavering views have the strong potential to be infectious to a leadership-starved public. He won’t be playing golf after any beheadings.

While the media will try to paint Cruz as nothing more than a right-winger, they will have a hard time ignoring a powerful resume that includes serving as the director of policy planning for the Federal Trade Commission and as associate deputy attorney general at the U.S. Department of Justice. He has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court nine times! That’s more than any other member of Congress.

Did I mention he is Hispanic? Did I mention he doesn’t waffle on illegal immigration?!

Jimmy Carter’s presidency led to Ronald Reagan being elected. Living through our second term of Obama, Cruz looks to be the right leader to capture the hearts and minds of hard-working Americans who have had enough of failed domestic and international policies.

Ted Cruz 2016. Ben Carson would make a good choice for HHS Secretary.

And don’t you know the democrats, and their followers (voters) will start screaming “He’s only been a senator a few years. He doesn’t have the gravitas.”

Add Allen West as Sec. of Defense and Sarah Palin as Sec. of Commerce and we'll have Lib. heads exploding all over the place.

Ted needs to get Rand Paul (and clowns like Huckabee and Santorum) out of the way quickly and emerge as the only alternative to the ONE moderate who will be running.

I would love to see at least two of Jeb/Krispy/Mitt in the race so they can split the squish vote - but I suspect that they and the donor class will sort that out before the primaries even start.

Ted Cruz advisor on 2016: “At this point it’s 90/10 he’s in. And honestly, 90 is lowballing it.”

If you’ve read his bio, you know how silly that would be.

These latte journalists make me wanna puke. What the hell does “only 843 days left” actually mean? Is that supposed to indicate that the brain needs to be reset to understand this is really (you dummies) a SHORT period of time? Is there anyone who can hold their breath for 843 days? Does anyone understand how much damage a POTUS can do in just ONE day? Where the hell do they get these writers from anyway?

Agreed. 843 days 843 days too long for that man to stay in office.

Do you not think the democrats could get away with saying Cruz doesn’t have enough experience? And every voter would parrot the line. And they’ll all say it with a straight face.

He’s everything, and more, that they claimed Barack Obama was in 2008. Go read his bio, we’ll wait.

What it will take is some one with guts and the balls to back it up, not some linguine spine wimps who constantly try to appease and reach across the isle.

How is it the dems/media have not yet started attacking Cruz with the fury they have flung at Sarah Palin? Could it be
a) they already know the fix is in for Mittens or other RINO
b) they don't care who the Republican nominee will be, bc they're sure their nominee will be the next president
c) Cruz is another pretend conservative like Juan McC or Mittens
d) other

FWIW, I love Cruz and expect to support him, but I feel like Charlie Brown with Lucy holding the football.

If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know.

Please beware, this is a high-volume ping list!

I will go with other. Ted Cruz’s greatest strength and greatest weakness is one and the same. He relishes his self chosen role as chief fire eater of the Republican senators. Conservative republicans love him for his stands making both the establishment squishes and democrats squirm, the press will use these actions to demonstrate that he is too extreme.

I've even heard some FReepers say that.

You think that they’re not attacking Cruz yet? Put in “tedcruz” in keyword search here.

I’m not arguing with you. I’m saying the dems will harp and harp that he’s not qualified and they’ll get away with it because of help from the media.
