Christian farmers that I know believe they honor that instruction when they rotate crops and allow their fields to lie fallow every few years.
If I have a farm, I can have the entire farm lie fallow for a year, or I can have a seventh of it lie fallow each year.
Are both obedience, or is only the first obedience?
It won't work. The Sabbath for the Land was as much military logistical preparation as it was anything. Don't look at it as mystical. For the most part, it is not.
They don’t look at it as mystical or military. They look at it as good stewardship of the land. Apparently, it builds the soil.
Well, it depends upon whether you think this is a scriptural question or a technical question. Technically insofar as the farm is concerned, the poor and animals were to glean every blade of grass and leaf. There was to be nothing left. It was to be a cleansing, which probably took out the base for all sorts of pests. There was also soil inoculation from the animals. So a simple "rest" is not the same thing as was commanded from even a technical perspective.
