Secret Service fumbled response after gunman hit White House residence in 2011
Washington Post ^ | 9-27-14 | Carol D. Leonnig

Posted on 09/28/2014 1:50:10 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

The gunman parked his black Honda directly south of the White House, in the dark of a November night, in a closed lane of Constitution Avenue. He pointed his semiautomatic rifle out of the passenger window, aimed directly at the home of the president of the United States, and pulled the trigger.

A bullet smashed a window on the second floor, just steps from the first family’s formal living room. Another lodged in a window frame, and more pinged off the roof, sending bits of wood and concrete to the ground. At least seven bullets struck the upstairs residence of the White House, flying some 700 yards across the South Lawn.

President Obama and his wife were out of town on that evening of Nov. 11, 2011, but their younger daughter, Sasha, and Michelle Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, were inside, while older daughter Malia was expected back any moment from an outing with friends.

The night bullets hit the White House and the Secret Service didn't know.

Read the WHOLE article at the link. I'm aghast. This is the first I've heard of this case.

If those windows aren't 4 inches thick, someone has been screwing up. Smashed? at 700 yards +? I this the guy with the SKS?

Officers who were on the scene who thought gunfire had probably hit the house that night were largely ignored, and some were afraid to dispute their bosses’ conclusions.

If true, this would probably be the part that disturbs me most about this story. Arguing with your boss in the heat of the moment may be a bad idea (although sometimes sticking to your guns is the right call even in such a case - you'd just better be right!) but during the aftermath, subordinates should never be afraid to say "Sir, respectfully, I see it differently and this is why" and superiors should always be willing to listen.

The smartest people know they can be wrong, and those around you may just stop your mistakes being too serious.

I never heard of this either.

The problem is....do we believe it or not. Sounds like a wag the tail scenario....is that right??

I tend to believe it. The lapses and fumblings of the Secret Service did not start recently.

Looking at the hits...it doesn't make much sense.

Sorry....don't believe it.

From reading the article I get the impression that the exterior windows are antique glass for appearance - they have ballistic glass behind them. So the exterior glass was smashed, but the ballistic glass stopped the round as it was supposed to.

But, from the article:

It took the Secret Service four days to realize that shots had hit the White House residence, a discovery that came about only because a housekeeper noticed broken glass and a chunk of cement on the floor.

With the "assault rifle" bit planted in the reader's head, the reader is supposed to believe that the shooter's AK variant (7.62 X 39?) was punching through the White House walls and windows near the end of a (rainbow) flight path at 700 yards.

Something here just doesn't flange up.

I had heard something about this, but not much behind someone taking potshots at the whitehouse.

Side note: even if Brak Ubama was there, nothing of any real importance to the country was in any real danger.
And Brak ain’t important in any real way.

I wonder how many, even on the Secret Service, will think the same way during these eight terrible years without a real president. If it happened at all (and I don't trust anything that comes out of Obama's underlings), I'm left wondering whether it was staged as part of their anti-gun agenda, with an innocent child left there in case the shooter got lucky. I doubt that someone as cold as Barack the First would care even about his own daughter. As for me, even a small danger to a child bothers me a whole lot more than damage to a structure that has lost its meaning.

Most likely never happened. The O admin is out to get rid of the Secret Service and replace it with loyal thugs. They will lie and plant falsehoods until they get their way.

It is coming. Just wait.

I don’t buy the 700 yards, maybe 70 yards would be more accurate. The White house lawn isn’t that large.

I guess the same applies to the Oklahoma Beheading and Assaults./s/
Going to check the British papers, doing the work that the official outlet organs of Obama will not do.

Yeah they “fumbled”, they forgot to laser paint the targets for the shooter.
