Australia’s most decorated soldier

This really should say 'most decorated currently serving' (he is still in the Reserves) but you have to go back to Vietnam to find anybody more decorated (Warrant Officer Ray Simpson VC DCM who died in 1978). He ranks above Australia's other living Victoria Cross recipients because in addition to holding the Victoria Cross which is Australia's highest award for bravery in battle, he also holds the Medal of Gallantry which is the third highest. And looking at the pictures I can also see him wearing the Commendation for Distinguished Service which I did not know he had until now. I find on checking that he was awarded it last year after his sixth tour of duty in Afghanistan for 'exceptional leadership, courage, mentoring, and reconnaissance in the 'most difficult and dangerous of circumstances'.

He's the best of us.
