A possible plus to this and further escalation is that citizens coming to the aid and defense of the police would give said police more of an incentive to back law abiding citizens when the orders come down from the feds to suppress civilians in a time of crisis.

Very good point, and a positive future angle on where this is all headed. I think the same could be said of our military folks.
