Kim Jong Un hasn’t been seen for weeks and no one is quite sure why

In North Korea, political life revolves around Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un. Yet Kim appeared to have skipped a high-level governmental meeting Thursday – and no one seems to know quite why.

Televised footage of the reopening of North Korea's Supreme People’s Assembly did not show Kim at the meeting, the Associated Press reports. South Korean officials tasked with keeping tabs on the North now believe that it is the first time that Kim has missed a meeting at Pyongyang's parliament since his father died in December 2011.

In fact, Kim, usually a focus of North Korean state media, has not been seen since Sept. 3, when he appeared at a concert with his wife.

This absence has sparked much speculation in the South Korean press, with many suggesting that Kim is in poor health: During the summer, North Korean state television showed him walking with a slight limp, which many had taken as a sign of a wider problem at the time. Chosun Ilbo notes that Kim appeared in the North Korean media earlier this week, but it was noted that he was "laboring on" in the heat: Perhaps a reference to fatigue, the South Korean newspaper suggests.

Maybe he is slowly being taken out, illness is the best way to avoid total chaos, the question would be, in such a scenario involving his death, who would replace him.

Info coming out of NK is unprecedented, in that they’re describing their young leader’s illness. Could a purge be going on? Stay tuned.

At 31-years-old I doubt that his health could be that compromised. Maybe he was faking a limp so the S Korean press would speculate that his absence is health-related.

Check Dennis Rodman’s basement. Or maybe Hassan Rouhani’s man cave in Iran.

If I was the supreme leader and I could get anything I wanted, when I wanted it, and money was no object then you would never see me.

Or perhaps, put better, I would never have to see the peasants. And of course, they would ALL be peasants.

Nice life until the bullet gets about half way through your head.

His wife, in imitating Hillary Clinton, threw a vase at him. Only she had better aim than Hillary... That is quite a lump on his noggin. Of course she is at a labor camp doing who knows what...

Just waiting to the masses of crying North Koreans, they will have to increase their rations the week before so they can squeeze out some extra tears for dear leader....

My guess: Kim Jong-un is seriously ill and the North Koreans are hiding it. It’s getting to the point that Kim Il-Sung may look better than anyone thought in the past.

Maybe he died of a “brain hemorrhage” like what used to happen to prominent Soviets. Then they have to go through their internal power struggle to determine who becomes emperor. No constitutional succession checklist in a dump like that.
