Gillespie Within Single Digits of Warner in Virginia

Just two weeks ago a poll had Republican Ed Gillespie down by 22 points to incumbent Mark Warner in Virginia.

A new poll just out has him closing to within nine. The Gillespie team had been anticipating something of a surge as Fall turned voters' focus toward the upcoming mid-term elections.

“U.S. Sen. Mark Warner has been the most popular politician in Virginia for the past several years and appears to be in reasonable shape for reelection,” said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. “But his lead is not insurmountable with six weeks to go until Election Day.” Warner had a 22-point lead over Gillespie in a poll released about two weeks ago from the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University.

This was not supposed to be a competitive race and I don’t think it will be, but if Gillespie gets close enough, Rats will have to spend money in VA which they would have liked to spend elsewhere.

Warner has deep pockets himself - according to Wikipedia, he’s the richest man in the Senate - a real man of the “people”.

Gillespie is the long time political consultant who is now running for office.

Warner is “making hay” on that point in his ads & I think it’s going to resonate.

Gillespie has a one in a hundred chance of winning. He only received 60% of the vote in the GOP primary against an unknown, weak candidate. Gillespie is not a real conservative. He is a Rovian candidate who will go down in flames.

I question whether Gillespie really wants to win. He is going thru the motions perhaps to help him personally after the election. There is little enthusiasm for Gillespie among VA conservatives.

Very true - family and friends (all conservative) are going to the polls because of Brat ... Gillespie is an afterthought.

Also, they means that they are going to have to keep up the media blitz in Virginia and can’t send money to other races. If Warner is close, some of the other races are definitely going the GOP way.

He was a throw-away candidate, not one else wanted to take on Warner. The real race is for Kaine’s seat or the Governorship.

Amazing how it is perfectly acceptable for the GOPE fools to break ranks with the Party at any time, but let a conservative threaten to do so and all sorts of hand wringing, wailing, name calling and guilt trip attempts fly from the GOPE purist.

I don’t know what is worse the GOPE or their “conservative” apologist.

One of the pollsters, I forget which one, said there is a 96 percent chance that Gillespie will lose.

Meaningless, Cuccinelli was within single digits of McAuliffe too, but “Libertarians” sunk him.

Kaine got more votes than Obama in 2012. Kaine is a lock for reelection.
