Just two weeks ago a poll had Republican Ed Gillespie down by 22 points to incumbent Mark Warner in Virginia.
A new poll just out has him closing to within nine. The Gillespie team had been anticipating something of a surge as Fall turned voters' focus toward the upcoming mid-term elections.
U.S. Sen. Mark Warner has been the most popular politician in Virginia for the past several years and appears to be in reasonable shape for reelection, said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. But his lead is not insurmountable with six weeks to go until Election Day. Warner had a 22-point lead over Gillespie in a poll released about two weeks ago from the Wason Center for Public Policy at Christopher Newport University.

And let's not forget that MODERATE REPUBLICAN JOHN WARNER endorsed THE DEMOCRAT in Virginia! He's really helping out with that "we must win back the Senate!" campaign!!
I do have to give Mark Warner credit for his role in helping popularize Chocolate Fountains. About 8 years ago he tried to bribe the Daily Kos KOmmies at their Las Vegas convention to support his hopeful bid for president by providing free sushi and a Chocolate Fountain at the Stratosphere. Until then Chocolate Fountains were rare and exotic but now they have appeared at every Golden Corral and other buffets across the nation.
This would be hugh and series if we could pull this off and carry Gillespie to a win.
I wouldn’t ever vote for a democrat, but I must say I’m with him on the chocolate fountain issue. I experienced one at a wedding and it was unbelievable!
We can only pray and hope.
BTW, I notice a Libertarian candidate in that race. Which leads me to ask, WHERE are the Green candidates? A few years ago there were quite a few Green candidates in races around the country. Now they are rarely seen. What happened? Democrat payoffs to stay out of elections?
I am the Chairman of a Virginia Republican County Committee.
Ed Gillespie has run a campaign that is devoid of important issues.
He is for a strong economy, and not much else.
Virginia’s Conservatives are not impressed and not interested in electing another RINO.
Gillespie is perceived as another weak candidate sponsored by the Washington establishment.
Maybe Virgina will build a chocolate memorial to him.
Every time I see a chocolate fountain, I think of Mark Warner’s attempt to bribe the KOmmies at the Stratosphere. At the time of the attempted bribe, chocolate fountains were almost unknown outside Vegas. BTW, my favorite thing to do at chocolate fountains is to cover strawberries with chocolate.
Chocolate covered green apples are my favorite. I tried chocolate covered marshmallows but I almost got sick. Waaaayyy too much sugar!
“Gillespie is perceived as another weak candidate sponsored by the Washington establishment.”
Geez, that goes without saying. They have a very deep bench of these types. Still, it’s a good sign that such a dullard is moving up in the polls (if they’re accurate).
Yep. Robert Sarvis, perennial Libertarian spoiler. . .
You’d think, after several failed campaigns, he’d get the message.
But he ALWAYS gets funding from Democrat donors. . .
Don’t let Moochelle see you eating chocolate, it is VERBOTEN!!!
She-who-pegs-the-pResident has decreed it to be so!!!
Well, if he is able to deliver on that he's worth electing.
So WHAT happened to all the Green candidates? I used to see them in a lot of races. Nowadays...almost never.
its time for the democrat party to trot out the “Ed Gillespie and the radical right wing will take away women’s birth control and abortions” ads
all they do is change the name and picture of the attackee
and it seems the fragile flowers of VA womanhood buy it
Would be wonderful. What is Ed doing to win the race?
You answered my question below. Thanks. Sounds like Ed is “playing safe” instead of running like a conservative.
Gillespie is the long time political consultant who is now running for office. His dismal campaign reflects the sad state of the GOP, which keeps on doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
