I am 62 years old and have yet to vote in a Republican presidential primary that made a difference. Maybe I will retire to Iowa just for the heck of it. Last time around, my top three choices all declined to run. I ended up passing out some literature and voting for Newt, whom I have always regarded as the best ideas man to come along in a long time, but I did so with full recognition that he has too much personal baggage to ever be viable.

The point is, we rarely have the luxury of the ideal candidate. At this point in the cycle, by all means let's work for one. I like Ted Cruz but I'm skeptical that he can appeal outside the base. There are half a dozen others that I'm willing to get excited about, none of whom have gained much traction in the polls. That, of course, is what the primary process can potentially remedy.

So ... my recommendation all around is that we cut it out with the circular firing squad, and urge our candidates to hammer on the democrats, not each other. And to pick two or three issues of importance, and launch a crusade. May the best man win.

It will, again, be settled long before I vote on it. I hope y'all make a good choice.

I like Ted Cruz too and would love to see him in the race. I don't want any of the Republican elites choices, but could easily vote for Jeff Sessions who might also appeal to the RINOs, simply because he's been there a long time.
There are a few others like Scot Walker who might appeal to both conservative Tea Party types and RINOS, but you can have Christie, Jeb Bush, Romney, etc. I hope Rick Santorum, Newt, and the rest also stay out this time. They had their shot and didn't garner enough support.

Similar here. My state GOP primary is so late in the spring that the nominee is already determined weeks earlier. It happened in 2008 and 2012 and will probably happen again in 2016. That makes the state GOP presidential primary irrelevant and gives little reason to jump on any candidate bandwagon.

Well, if the conservatives eat their own again and we get stuck with choosing between the Mittster, Crispy Creams, and Bush the Third, I'd take the Mittster any day.

He's already been given the media anal probe, and I'll bet there's millions of disaffected 'Rat voters who regret their 2012 vote for Zero. If Romney could make the case that a vote for Fauxchahantas or the Hildabeast is just 3rd 0bama term, then he'd win in a landslide.

(Of course, this is all hypothetical. Our side needs to STOP with the circular firing squad and get behind a real conservative EARLY to prevent having to choose yet another RINO).

I think Ted Cruz can appeal outside the base because he is brilliant by any standard, is able to clearly articulate and explain core American conservative principles of liberty, free markets and Constitutional law, and can apply those ideals in a compelling way to his public analyses of how they can turn this country around.

Best of all, he seems honest and sticks to his guns (which I think is something Americans will admire after 7 years of Obama's lies and prevarications) and is not afraid to confront the propaganda of left wing Democrat candidates like Hillary and Elizabeth Warren.

Frankly, at this point, I'm having a hard time seeing what other potential Republican candidate that I could support.
