John Feehery: Fleeting gain, lasting worry (Scalise's buddy says pass amnesty)

As the Senate wrapped up work before departing for the elections, Republicans forced a vote on the issue of immigration, wanting to put Democrats on record on the controversial issue of the president’s executive authority to expand the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

It’s obvious that, through the short-term lens of the coming election, this proved to be a smart political maneuver. In fact, four vulnerable Democrats sided with the Republicans and against the president because they were so worried about the political volatility of the vote.

This follows a vote by House Republicans before the August recess that gave the president some additional money he had requested to deal with the so-called border crisis — but it included strings attached that proved to be so tough on immigrants, it attracted the vote of noted anti-immigrant activist Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa).

In the last presidential election, Mitt Romney won the state of Georgia, but he only got 53 percent of the vote. The reason? Hispanics and Asians who have flooded into the state voted against his anti-immigration rhetoric of the 2012 primaries.

Perdue is ahead of Nunn. Will probably win by 5-10 points.

Chambliss won the 2008 runoff in part due to what the Dems would wo with a 60 Senators on immigration.

Boos, hisses greet defense of immigration reform bill (Saxby Chambliss booed) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1836393/posts

I don't think the GOP makes any ground on the 95% black vote for Dems if they pass amnesty.

Would the Dems have needed 50, 60, 70 or 80% of the non black minority vote to have won?

Everything is now through a short term lens of a coming election. "Damn the country...full speed ahead for more campaign finances. Gotta hold on to this lush elite station in life. I couldn't make a buck or live this high on the hog in what is left of the private sector."

So this flaming moron(I’m being charitable here) thinks that Hispanics will vote for the GOP if Amnesty is passed?

BULL...SHIT....

All it would do is enable MORE democrat voters. Come election time, they won’t give a rat’s ass who voted for what. The dems will promise free stuff, the republicans will promise LESS free stuff, and they’ll vote for the dems. The same dynamic will be in play, as always.

The Blacks are so entrenched, the GOP Chairman, Rinse Pubic or whatever the hell his name is, could personally send every Black person in the country a check for $1,000,000 and they would STILL vote democrat. Pandering to groups is a LOST CAUSE. Show conservative LEADERSHIP, and people of all backgrounds will follow!
