The last of the famous Mitford sisters, Deborah, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, has died at the age of 94, her son said this afternoon.
Deborah Vivien Freeman-Mitford and her siblings moved in the same circles as Winston Churchill, John F Kennedy and Evelyn Waugh, and epitomised a privileged and glamorous aristocratic life that no longer exists.
But despite the glamour that came with being both a Mitford and chatelaine of Devonshire family seat, Chatsworth House, the Duchess, known as Debo, knew great tragedy, too.
Today a family spokesman issued a statement on behalf of her son, the 12th Duke of Devonshire, saying: 'It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Deborah, Dowager Duchess of Devonshire, has passed away peacefully this morning.'

Who was married to Robert Treuhaft for whom Madame Hillary interned.
I believe that a Dowager Duchess outranks a Dowager Countess by several levels. A duke is the highest level of ‘noble’, just short of a king.
Duke, Marquess, Earl, Baron, Baronet, Knight
Duchess, Marchioness, Countess, Baroness, Lady, Dame

And Adolph Hitler. They left out Adolph Hitler.
Unity Valkyrie Mitford (8 August 1914 28 May 1948), styled The Hon. Unity Mitford, was an aristocratic English socialite who was a devotee of Adolf Hitler.
Both in Britain and Germany, she was a prominent supporter of Nazism and fascism, and formed part of Hitler’s inner circle of friends.[1] Following the declaration of World War II, Mitford attempted suicide in Munich, and was officially allowed safe passage back to England in her invalid condition, but never recovered.
Unity was a member of the Mitford family, tracing its origins in Northumberland back to the 11th century Norman settlement of England.[2] Her sister Diana was married to Oswald Mosley, leader of the British Union of Fascists.[2]
They would have gotten along great with the Kennedys.
Yeah lol. Never listened to him. Just recalled seeing a commercial for his music when I was kid, and thought it was silly. The name just occurred to me when trying to think of a 3rd death of someone equally obscure, unheard of by anyone under the age of 40(or more). LOL
My daughter, when she was very young, thought Zamfir was the best thing since sliced bread. That was immediately prior to her Errol Flinn crush. She had some toy that looked roughly like a pan flute and she would run around the house pan fluting like Zamfir making a noise she thought sounded like one. I havent heard about Zamfir since. Your citation took me back to those times when she was little. I LOLED!!!
BTW she would be crushed to hear your age estimate of Zamfir followers...shes about 30 now. LOL!
Zamfir sort of reminds of Yanni. What is it w/ these one name people? LOL
Ooooh... I forgot about “Yanni”. lol
He’s another one of ‘those’. When I was a kid, my friend’s mother liked his music, and had a crush on him, I think. I would have sooner drowned than listen to it.
Ya I think he could only get gigs on PBS, right? That pretty much says no one else would tolerating his scrawling exc the very desperate. Its funny what becomes the fad du jour huh.
And seemed to be the only normal sister of the bunch.
There are some interviews of her on Youtube if you are interested.
Thanks, maybe I’ll take a look.
Words to live by.
The hell it doesn't.
