Without probable cause? A manhunt for a suspected killer isn’t probable cause? I know someone who lives around there and they’re so afraid that they’re carrying around a shotgun.
If the guy had killed a lawyer these clowns would sue for exactly the opposite reasons.
Unless they are in hot pursuit and they actually see the suspect enter a certain vehicle, property or building, then no, the search for a suspected killer is not sufficient reason to violate the rights of the rest of the citizenry.
PS - I am NOT saying the lawyer in question isn’t a greedy pig.
It's not probable cause as against the innocent people whose person or property has been searched without a warrant or some exigent circumstance such as hot pursuit. Indeed, by your argument, the Boston Police had every right to stop, detain, and search innocent people and invade their homes without a warrant in searching for the Boston Marathon bombers. By your argument the 4th Amendment is meaningless as long as cops are looking for a killer.
