This strikes me as weird and creepy, but essentially harmless. It's also totally preventable: just don't post any photo that you don't want the whole world to see.

The people who do this clearly are not happy with their own lives. Seems creepy but harmless to me too.

This is like some people adopt dogs and treat them as their “children”. Having real children is taboo. If you want to have more than one child, you will be called all sorts of names. Feminists push the mentality that if you don’t have a career, you’re a failure and a shame to the female sex.

Don’t put up images of your kids on the web. Seems like a basic, common sense safety measure to me.

Watermark the photos, claim copyright under your name with restrictions and force them to take the photos down on a legal basis. Or, stop posting them. Take your pick.

This strikes me as weird and creepy, but essentially harmlessHarmless? Wait until someone decides to raise the stakes to kidnapping the real child.

Maybe not so harmless. JPEG photos these days frequently include GPS coordinates in the meta-data. It’s not at all difficult to get at it. Any decent stalker could have your home GPS coords easily and come around to get a closer look. Or something...
Don’t post to public websites that which is private!

Reminds me of a truly weird Burton and Taylor movie from the 60s. Cannot for the life of me remember the title but its about an older role playing couple who finally lose their grip on reality.
