My son who was in SepcOps told me this story about a gun fight in Afcrapistan. He and his buddies were pinned down and surround by Taliban fighters that held the high ground. Their comm guy was looking for air support desperately on the radio. A lone Hog driver answered and said he would be there in two minutes. Hog circled twice while he got the lay of the land. He then commenced a gun run directly at the center of the terrorist attack. The terrorists all broke and ran for the hills. Oddly the Hog never fired. When he turned to leave and said “Sorry I was bingo weapons and now I am bingo fuel. Fast movers due in 10 minutes. Have a pleasant rest of the day. “

That’s great! Having been downrange from the hogs, I can tell you there is no platform that comes close in the intimidation factor. Nothing like watching three football fields explode in a rain of DU!
Too bad the AF has been trying to scrap them for decades. Just not sexy enough for the jet jockeys.
