Reason Magazine actually asked climate protesters what they want to do, and it’s hilarious

Those in politics who spend much of their time railing about the dangers associated with anthropogenic climate change will often assert that the public largely shares their concerns about catastrophic climate shifts. You rarely hear from those oft-cited members of the public who are supposedly alarmed by climate change alarmism. Reason Magazine’s Kmele Foster, co-host of Fox Business Network’s The Independents, revealed why that is when he took to the People’s Climate March in New York City this weekend armed with a camera and a microphone.

Unsurprisingly, the People’s March more resembled a throwback anti-capitalism protest than it did a climate rally. When Foster asked random protesters what they wanted to see done to address climate change, those who did not merely say they wanted to see a “coming together” and a general raising of “awareness” usually promoted familiar policies that would achieve the deindustrialization of the first world originally espoused by the Soviets and their allies.

One protester said his “movement” was preparing to mount a “resistance” and lead an “actual revolution” that would lead to a “whole new society.” … Sounds familiar. What kind of new society, Foster pressed. A “socialist” one, the protester replied.

One relatively older rally attendee – most of the protesters Foster spoke with were silver-haired – insisted that hydraulic fracturing, a process which was proven safe again at the conclusion of a study funded by National Science Foundation and Duke University study, should be criminalized.

“Capitalism destroys the planet,” one large banner promoted by representatives with RevCom.us read. “We need revolution. Nothing less!”

“We live in a grotesque era where we have everything we want right now,” one protester told Foster, graciously packaging her entire movement up in one self-hating nutshell.

There appear to be two strains of protesters who attended the People’s March. Some cling desperately to the ideals of Marx and who repeat rhetoric and slogans which have largely remained unchanged since the Rutherford B. Hayes administration. These folks ironically consider themselves “progressives.” The other strain of protester who spoke with Foster seemed lost, misplaced, left behind in a world which no longer made much sense.

It is a condition as old as time; the aimless in search of personal meaning complement the ranks of a movement which promises personal purpose. The revolution is over, but the tragically committed revolutionaries persist.

What Foster uncovered in New York City was what so many on the right have known for years, but the public rarely sees. The modern climate alarmism movement has been hijacked by the remnants of those who still adhere to the defunct tenets of revolutionary Marxism. It is no wonder, then, that so few climate change devotees in government and the media go out of their way to make sure you never hear from their grassroots supporters.

“That’s pretty funny. After the eastern block collapsed, the whole area was like one big superfund site.”

Buy ain’t that the truth. Much like most of China.

These guys are so orwellian in their speech. “Capitalism is environmentally unfriendly” “Conservatives have moved radically to the right.”

Both are not only false, but are the exact opposite of the truth. The latter is easy to prove: Which side, right or left, concurs with popular opinion in 1960 regarding same sex marriage?

It’s laughable.

It’s laughable on one hand and [searching for word] stunning on another.

Truth, even partial truth; even ever-so-slightly researched truth-—is much harder to “know” than a bumper sticker slogan. And this gets me, I must confess.

I recently got in touch w/a close friend of 45+ years (and if I told you we met in Berkeley in 1971, the Hilinsky era referred to in these recent HRC letters-—and undoubtedly walked or motorcycled by her then-Derby St address a thousand times, I wouldn’t be exaggerating one iota)

We lost touch & had not conversed for about 30 years.

So this guy is absolutely technical (much like me) and big into electronics and mechanics, largely centered on his sailboat obsession. But-—he was raised by fervent East Coast leftists and he thinks Communism is “kinda cool”.

Out of his mouth comes every, and I mean every leftist meme there is and some he has made up on his own. I can get him to conflate “Koch Bros”, “states’ rights”, “separate but equal” all into one sentence if we talk long enough.

So I can’t figure that out...beyond what I first said. In a world where we have the freedom to ponder our belly buttons using the highest levels of technology imaginable——there not only *is* no objective truth, there really isn’t the desire to know or seek it. Nor is there the value that knowing it, even imperfectly, might be better than sheer conformance with this mass mindlessness we have now. This, I probably don’t have to point out, is the classic formula for Pol Potism, for despotism per every historical example available.

These people are Marx’s “useful idiots” in which their Marxist masters reap the rewards through government partnering with the very same Big Businesses to buy off regulators (and corporate welfare) not to mention TYRANTS like Mr. Obama in office.

They’ll never benefit from the policies they say the promote, but they will be directed into misdirected crusade against conservatives, real free markets, Christians and other dissenters..

You actually hit the heart of the problem right there. And it is the mantra of the arrogantly “smart” high school or college kid.

The guy I mentioned earlier loves to discuss religious issues, but I finally saw the problem with his MO. He says he likes to play “devil’s advocate” when arguing with both sides (Christian and non). After a while it hit me: He has not the courage to actually publicly choose a side. He prefers being the “smart guy in the middle.”

He’s a real Bill O’Reilley wannabee.

That’s one modus. The “PPP” Professional Paradox Poser. (I just made that up) Brits, in particular, love doing this.

Another, far more widespread mode, is the overwhelming desire to simply get the 4th grade gold star for coming up with the approved answer.

People protest for the sake of protesting.

Or when they want a new flat screen TV, or a pair of Air Jordans...
