George P. Bush was born in Houston, attended Rice University and got a law degree from the University of Texas Law School. He is serving in the US Navy Reserve and was deployed for 8 months in Afghanistan (but under a fake name for security reasons). At the recent event at the WWII Memorial in Washington to mark the 69th anniversary of V-J Day he was the keynote speaker. He kept it short and said the appropriate things.

I don't know if he's a RINO or not--if he is it will come out soon enough, but I'm for judging him on his own merits or lack thereof, not on whom he is related to. He had no choice when it came to picking his parents and grandparents.

I hear you. You get my point entirely. And "Perry" is a perfect example........except that I know him. REALLY know him, and his family. He's Rick..."the flake" to his friends, and holds the same things you and I hold dear, dear. I knew his parents. I know where he's been and who he is and what he is really about. I do, not in a bragging type of way because the vast majority here hate him, but as a Christian knows another, really knows him from years and years. His parents shaped him in small-town American back in the 70s and 80s when the Democrats were the conservatives and they led the fight...and then they/we figured it out. The Dems abandoned Conservatives.

He had a tough departure from that in Texas but broke with tradition and embraced the Republicans. It stung and didn't sit well, but he did it.

He's his own man, no doubt. But frankly I'd rather he be that than a bone fide Republican these days.

Austin is a cesspool, no doubt. But they know it, and the rest of us know it too. I just worry for DFW now. It went blue last presidential. Thank God for the burbs, and Lubbock. That's all I can say. New roads, great schools, in appreciation for our votes. But how long can it hold out? We can't hold the fort forever without reinforcements. We need a leader. Now. We need another Reagan, and maybe with a "Hispanic" last name.

Thank you for that info. I did not know and am glad to be informed.

I do, however, have major reservations on anyone with the Bush last name henceforth and forever, even though I believe both Presidents Bush were good men. The fact that ALL the Bush men have been opportunistic politicians and/or devout RINOs will be difficult to overcome for ole George P. in my humble opinion.

Keep in mind that Grover Cleveland signed the Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 which was the first power grab by the Fed to regulate industry.

Grover Cleveland did that? Now I'm disillusioned. I had thought Grover Cleveland was the first and last good Democrat President.

Well, I would give James K. Polk partial credit.

Which is why Austin is Boston West? Texas is led by extreme left-wing liberals like Rick Perry.

Thanks for the link, Borges. Granted, Cleveland wasn't perfect (and forming the ICC is a pretty big strike against him), but he was far better than people like Benjamin Harrison who peddled the disastrous Sherman Silver Purchase Act and the Sherman Antitrust Act. (It's interesting how quickly the Republicans and Democrats swapped sides on the silver issue in 1896.)

Some good articles on Cleveland:

one (ignore the quips on modern foreign policy, his analysis of Cleveland's economic policies are spot on)

two

(Woodrow Wilson was originally a Bourbon Democrat, but rejected both the Bourbon Democrat commitment to protecting the gold standard and the Bryan camp's attempt to wreck American currency via silver in favor of creating the elitist Federal Reserve. Conservapedia's article on Wilson is far more favorable towards him than he deserves.)

James K Polk was probably the only President who managed to make good on every promise he made. Contrast him to the criminal vermin who occupy DC today.

I’m sorry bud, but th main reason so many here detest Perry is because he has apparently embraced the lie tbat opn borders are good for this state and country. The open borders policy is eventually going to destroy our country. He’ll never get my vote because that one issue is absolutely emblematic of a mindset that just simply doesn’t understand the threats we face.
