The price of Winning Ugly....
Discarding your own base, then whining about “no support”, SHOULD be cause for introspection.
Barack Hussein Obama won in 2012 because four million Republicans stayed home. Give them a reason to come out to vote FOR somebody, and they shall return.
Mere hours after the networks declared victory for Obama in 2012, someone's spin machine started claiming that fourteen million had stayed home, and that every one of them was an Evangelical Christian who wanted to spite Romney. Which group is best served by such a claim?
Well stated alloysteel. Let’s hope some people in the GOPe are listening.
There is a notion in the GOP-e that if they manage to nominate liberal candidates, the base will have no choice but to vote for the liberal candidate. A bit of this slipped through in an interview of Mitt Romney, when the interviewer asked him about the conservatives who are not happy with him. He replied that they have no other choice but to vote for him.
This may work for a lot of the base, with the fear tactics and bullying. However, the enthusiasm and motivation will not be there. Moreover, there will be a significant segment who actually will need more than the fear tactics and bullying, as a motivating factor.
The overwhelming amount of money that establishment candidates have in the primaries, compared to their cash poor new comer opponents, is not a factor in the general election, where the democrat opponent is also well funded. Dollar bills don't go out and vote. You actually need people to be motivated to go out and vote on a cold, rainy day.
The GOP-e and their "republican strategists/consultants" are ruining the party.
Who are these 4 million republicans who stayed home? And if they stayed home, how did Romney get so many more votes than McCain did?
"Discarding" is one thing; but, these people openly ridiculed and insulted their base. I sent my Republican Party card back to them and I will not be giving one red cent to them again, ever. These people, these non-elite, common people, are the very people who went out and did stuff for the party. They are the ones who donate money, time, effort for the Party. And, what did they get, snide comments and insults.
Well, now they have the vanilla candidates that they wanted. How's that working out -- well, mastermind Rove is now whining about our lack of participation.
Sometimes, Mr. Rove, you need to support one of our guys, and not work with the Democrats and the media to defeat them.
In 2008 McCain got 59.5 million votes.
In 2012 Romney got 60.5 million.
Obama lost 4 million from 08 to 12.
Karl Rove is not that insightful. He's in complete denial about what he has done and until he, and people like him, are completely removed from the political landscape and out of power, the trend away from "establishment candidates" will continue.
People like him will cause the death of the GOP.
“Give them a reason to come out to vote FOR somebody, and they shall return.”
See this is the thing the GOPe just never seems to get. They offer us NOTHING!! No plan for what they would do differently if in charge. They are afraid to go on the record supporting or opposing any policy. Then they wonder why we’re not that excited about a 51 or 52 Senate majority at best. Because we know damn well that nothing is gonna change, we will keep having to keep our guards up at all times to make sure they’re not making deals on amnesty and other crap with the other side.
The model for a wave election is 1994. But that didn’t happen by accident. It happened because Newt put out an agenda of 10 things they promised to vote on and push, and the promise was kept. At that time, I had no idea how rare leaders like Newt are in the GOP. Back then I thought any GOP House speaker would be committed to a conservative agenda.
Now I, and millions of others, have woken up to the fact that these ruling class types stand for nothing but keeping their own seat at the table of power. So yeah, big surprise their RINO nominees have no enthusiasm when they’ve basically given millions of us the finger.
