When first and foremost you identify yourself by the color of your skin, it is a lost cause. Who the frick cares what your skin color is.

If you are poor and need a hand up, who cares what your skin color is. Its the fact that your are poor and need a hand up.

If you are cheated out of a quality education, who cares what your skin color is. Its the fact that you need a quality education.

If you are unemployed, who cares what your skin color is. Its the fact that you are out of work and may needs training/education to have the proper skills to get a job that counts.

Here's a message to those leading the "causes": In this country, you are an American first and foremost. Act like it, and you would advance your cause far better and quicker than making a deal with democrats to have them implement policies that do nothing but keep people on their proverbial plantation.

“In this country, you are an American first and foremost.”

Had this discussion with an American of African descent a few years ago. He was one of the most conservative voices in these parts, writing letters to the editor frequently and sending the progressives into a frenzy. He referred to “his people” and used the term African American. I pointed out to him that ethnicity should never go before nationality ... that only leads to further division.

He agreed and referred to himself as an American of African descent thereafter. He died last year and I miss our talks.
